Books, people., Poem by R.L. Sharpe., Poem- "A Bag Of Tools.", Quote from Yu/stan/kema, Things we touch are building stones., We are building stones for others.

A BAG OF TOOLS

Isn’t it strange

That princes and kings,

And clowns that caper

In sawdust rings,

And common people

Like you and me

Are builders for eternity.

Each is given a bag of tools,

A shapeless mass,

A book of rules;

And each must make—

Ere life is flown—

A stumbling block

Or a stepping stone.

R.L. SHARPE

” In college, as I reflected back on my life at that time, I became aware that who I had become was a result of everything I had touched, everything I had read, and the people who I had connected to. My life was a building, and each stone played a part in whether I had a good foundation or not. Some stones crumbled under the weight of obstacles but most stones were strong and made of good material.

As the years passed, I also became aware I was given certain skills, abilities, and it was up to me to continue to shape my life in such a way that I would become a good, strong corner-stone for others in the process of them building their lives. As a parent, as a teacher, as a therapist, it clarified for me my real purpose in living. The above poem, A BAG OF TOOLS, reflects the insight I had.”

Trees are a lot like people.

We see them every where.

Some are tall and some are small,

And some are very rare.

Trees shelter wildlife from the cold.

Some people give to those in need.

God has a purpose for each thing,

Every embryo and seed.

Trees face the elements alone

And stand tall in the rain.

People learn they must endure

And stand despite their pain.

Trees do reflect life’s changes

In the budding of a leaf,

The growth that comes in living,

And the loss of leaves in grief.

Most people live their whole lives

With changes happening.

They dream of an eternal life

With every coming spring.

Both tree and man show moments

Of beauty and pure grace,

Brilliant leaves and shinning deeds

That no one can erase.

They know when death comes

To trees and mankind,

Renewal is still possible

For those we leave behind.

A small child wandered through the forest

Looking for hope, hungry for a bit of faith

That something existed bigger than her.

She needed to find a reason for being.

Found on Pinterest on 4-29-17. bonitavista.tumblr.com. Mayford Woods, CrewKerne, Somerset.

She leaned against a giant tree

And put her arms around its trunk.

She closed her eyes and tried to rest.

After an hour had passed, she noticed

The bark of the tree was rough.

Insects scurried back and forth

In between the ridges in the bark.

The tree provided shelter and food

For the insects passing by.

She breathed in the cool air

And embraced the solitude that

Surrounded her in the forest glade.

A bird flew above her head

And perched on the tree’s branches.

Found on Facebook Timeline on 8-8-16. Rocky Mountain Angel.

Nearby, came the chirps from a nest

Hidden in a canopy of leaves and twigs.

Again, this tree was providing shelter

For many of the creatures in the forest.

The child could feel the energy coming

From the heart and soul of the tree.

She could feel its unique vibrations

Enter her body and expand her soul,

Until she too felt as one with the tree.

“I feel renewed,” she cried.

Found on Pinterest on 4-30-17. Saved from an article on facilisimo.com.

“This energy is bigger than me.

I too, am made by God’s hand

To provide support for those

In need of renewal and hope.”

“All of us are  part of the whole,”

She said.

GIFTS FROM GOD

God created this world for me.

Found on Facebook Timeline on 8-1-16.

Found on Facebook Timeline on 8-1-16.

I see Him in the leaves

Of every single beautiful tree,

That moves with every breeze.

He lives among the mountain peaks,

And swims the ocean deep.

I hear him in the fields and creeks,

And all the birds that peep.

God created this world for me,

With every breath I take.

I see Him in my baby’s eyes

Whenever he’s awake.

I feel God’s presence as I rise

To create the things I make.

He gives me friends to comfort me

When losses bring heart-break.

God shows me that He really cares,

By being there for me.

His blessings come from time to time.

He’s there when I despair.

He’s in the smiles of those I greet,

And when I write a rhyme.

He’s with the friends that I meet.

My God is everywhere.

Things That Help You Survive: Connections To Objects, Animals, and People.

                                               Connections

When we are in survival mode and going through difficulties, we often feel lost, confused, dazed, unsure of what we are anymore or where we belong. The very things that went into making us who we are can change. This is true whether it is a divorce, loss of a job, loss of good health, or the loss of people who for years supported us, took care of us, and who played a part in forming our identities. Our self-identity is shaken And doubts creep in about our ability to cope with the difficulties that face us.

Divorce has a way of turning our lives upside down. Structure, routine, the comfort of knowing your kids are safe and living under your roof can change with a court order. The house you spent money and labor on, the memories you made while staying there, and the neighbors who became like family, can be gone in a heartbeat. The person who was to grow old with you and care for you is gone. Your identity as a wife, as a mother, the person who keeps the family together has changed. What can help you survive, may be keeping the house, the yard, your gardens, one of the dogs, and to be able to have equal custody and access to the children when needed. Without this, you become lost and have to begin again.

Belongings help anchor us and orient us in life, especially people with past traumas. Many of the elderly fight tooth and nail to stay in their homes. They don’t want to lose access to the very things that shaped who they are as people. We need the things that are important to us and that are filled with old memories.

We need to connect to animals in order to survive. They give us something to hold on to, to touch, to take care of, and in return they care for us unconditionally. They protect us, nuzzle us, look happy when we show up, and they are there for us. They get us up in the morning, get us on track with the routine, and they get close to us when we cry. They move us out of the house and into the fresh air when we want to curl up and disappear. Animals are important when you are trying to survive. Connections with people are essential and will be covered in the next post, P.2.
