The little brook sings a song,

So soft and merrily.

It sings of all the joys in life

As it curves round a tree.

The poison ivy on the bank

Is lying in the shade.

It lifts its creeping vine to see

How close the children wade.

The birds start-up a lively tune,

To voice their happiness.

How wild and sweet their melody,

They make a lot of fuss.

And yet,we on a higher plane

Complain about the flies.

We don’t take time to sit and see

The beauty with our eyes.

It only takes a little time

To ease the ache in someone’s heart.

It only takes a touch or two

When someone’s world is ripped apart.

It takes a gentle soul to know

The words to say that soothes the hurt

Felt deep within a wounded child

When others laugh and they are curt.

It only takes a moment now

To bow the head and say a prayer,

“Jesus keep her safe from harm

And show her love is everywhere.”

It takes a second in your day

To give a smile and say hello.

A child will show you gratitude

And she will change more than you know.

I saw this for myself today

When someone gave what she could give

To a small child who’d lost her way.

She gave her skills so she could live.

It was done with a kind heart

And gently so that few could see

She was intent to give God’s love

To a small child and set her free.

I moved through the forest with ease

Light footed and full of joy.

My ears caught the slight sounds

Of animals moving through the underbrush.

My eyes narrowed in a search for movement.

I knew without a shadow of a doubt

That I was part of the sweet-smelling earth

And a part of the circling sun.

The sky was a part of my hungry soul.

When sundown came and filled my world

With darkness and revealed the light

Of a thousand stars, I knelt upon

The  ground beneath my feet

And lit a fire to keep myself  alive

And  gave thanks to the God I knew

For providing me  a place

To come and worship Him

And lay at His feet the burdens

Of my trembling heart,

Sure of the knowledge that He

Would forgive me of  my sins

And set my humble spirit free.

For those who died on the beach of Normandy, and those whose boots walked on the trails in Vietnam and saw friends die, while they somehow survived. For the brave soldiers who fought in the Middle East and died knowing no safe place, we salute you. For the soldiers who fought  in the heat of battle and came back home with scars on their bodies and scars on their souls, we weep for you. We hope you will get the help you need and find consolation.

For those who have lost siblings, parents, spouses and children to illness, old age, disease, accidents, lack of treatment, and in other ways, our hearts go out to you. It is our fervent wish that they find peace,
