Brother, God, grief, letting go, loss, love, poetry by Yu/stan/kema, Ranching

I'm sorry that your brother died.
I know you carry tears inside.
You called him " Brother" all your life.
Your sorrow cuts you like a knife.

He sheltered you from every harm
And had a certain kind of charm.
You saw his flaws but loved him so,
And it is hard to let him go.

I'm sure he's trying to impress
God with his own worthiness.
He worked hard to build a ranch
And acquired a cowboy stance.

Now it's time to say good-bye.
He's ridden his horse across the sky.
He knows he'll see you again
And talk with you of now and then.

The Obstacle Of Fear

Love comes softly on angels' wings
And touches my shattered soul.
I am broken beyond repair
And grief has taken it's toll.

Where do I go when all is gone
And life has lost all meaning?
Is there a place to release my tears
And express the emotions I'm feeling?

The world can be such a lonely place
For a sensitive soul like mine.
How do you open yourself back up
To hurt and say, "I'm fine?"

The struggle to get up off the floor
Is strenuous year after year.
How do I try to find hope again
When I have such terrible fear?

Life is full of joy and sorrow.
We never know what comes tomorrow.
We make plans with baited breath
While pushing back the hands of death.
We try to play the hero's part
With an arrow in our heart.

We gather flowers as we go.
The years fly by and bring us woe.
The losses come one by one,
And we feel our life is done.
We are told to carry on
And embrace the coming dawn.

We feel such emptiness within.
We weep for what life might have been.
Our hopes and dreams have flown away,
And still we're staying one more day.
Our courage keeps us living here
After losing all that's dear.

” ‘Tis The Last Rose Of Summer,” by Thomas Moore.

"Tis The Last Rose Of Summer., death, loss, Poetry by Thomas Moore., Quote by Yu/stan/kema, What is valuable in life.

” The following poem written by Thomas Moore, ‘Tis The Last Rose Of Summer, is a sad poem but it resonates deep in me as I grow older. It is a poem of death, loss, and what is valuable in this life.

When we reach a certain age, we begin noticing in the obituaries, people we once interacted with and had relationships with. With the death of each person, we feel a sense of loss. A part of our life falls away like roses losing their petals in the Fall. It is only inevitable that we start asking ourselves if life is still worth living without friends and family we love. This question is also reflected in Thomas Moore’s poem.”            Yu/stan/kema

‘TIS THE LAST ROSE OF SUMMER

“Tis the last rose of summer

Left blooming alone,

All her lovely companions

Are faded and gone;

No flower of her kindred,

No rosebud, is nigh,

To reflect back her blushes,

To give sigh for sigh.

I’ll not leave thee, thou lone one,

To pine on the stem;

Since the lovely are sleeping,

Go sleep thou with them.

Thus kindly I scatter,

Thy leaves o’er the bed,

Where thy mates of the garden

Lie scentless and dead.

So soon may I follow

When friendships decay,

And from Love’s shinning circle

The gems drop away!

When the hearts lie wither’d,

And fond ones are flown,

Oh! who would inhabit

This bleak world alone?

loss, Love is stronger than hate., poetry by Yu/stan/kema, relying on each other., Resiliency, The Hurricane.

                  I

There is a storm building

out in the ocean.

Winds scream and howl

like some terrible monster

is chained up and finally

feels the taste of freedom

on its lips.

The circular flow of pent-up energy

begs to be released from its cage.

The smell of sulfur taints the air

as static electricity crackles

and pops from the clouds.

The winds increase

in intensity and speed,

as the storm travels

across miles

of empty ocean.

Waves surge and recede

and white caps form and

race across the hungry water.

Land lies ahead as anxious

forecasters huddle around

computer screens tracking

its  destructive path.

People scatter like ants.

Some flee before the storm

makes landfall,

and others board up windows

and stay behind

to protect their belongings.

They pray that the storm

will miss them,

and they wait

for the winds to hit.

               II

The hurricane comes

and dumps its fury on

homes, and people,

and then, it leaves,

taking with it

precious belongings,

and hopes and dreams

of the future.

It stamps forever

on the human heart

the realization that

something exists

bigger than themselves;

That people matter

more than things;

and they learn

when they work together,

and respect each other,

anything is possible.

They learn,

in caring for each other

they are not alone;

For underneath the skin,

and years of misconceptions,

they are the same:

they dream, they hope,

and they need

human connection,

and a faith in something

bigger than themselves.

They come to realize we all

need each other to survive,

and that love is stronger,

so much stronger

than any kind of hate.

Even though its hard to see

When you’ve lost everything,

You will survive, you will go on.

There’s a song for you to sing,

Despite the days being long,

Your spirit will take wing.

Fly above the flood  below.

Feel the pain and let it sting.

Inside, your strength will grow.

Grab a human hand and ask

For help to overcome your woe…

Together do the hardest task.

Know, faith and trust thrives,

So remove the mask you wear.

Give thanks to God, you’re both alive.

Show others that you still care.

Together, you will survive,

For God is everywhere.

Please stay with me through the night.

Help me face the morning bright

And give me strength to do what’s right.

When I’ve lost all hope inside,

And I choke on wounded pride,

I’ll soon accept what’s been denied:

Loss of friends and dreams that died.

Be with me as my heart weeps

While the night-time slowly creeps.

Pull me from a hole that’s deep.

I pray today my soul You’ll keep.

Take my hand and lift me high,

So that I can touch the sky.

Hold me gently as I cry,

As I tell the world good-bye.

BROKEN DREAMS BREAK THE HEART

Broken dreams shatter the soul

And leave barren ground where nothing grows.

All that the heart hopes for is gone.

An empty shell remains where the wind blows.

This heart beats an unsteady rhythm

When it remembers the joy I once had

Giving a flower to someone who made me glad

With gratitude.

This body remembers the tears that fell

When I grieved the loss of losing you

And discovered what about you wasn’t true

I thought I knew.

This soul remembers the agony that came

When promises were broken you once made

To a child who ended up feeling so afraid

You’d throw her away.

This mind remembers the darkness that fell

When I lost my faith in the goodness of me

And you destroyed what I thought I could be

If given a chance.

This part remembers you broke me in half

And never cried a tear and then you were gone.

You never looked back for you had  moved on

Leaving me behind, to grieve.
