She walked down to the river

Which flowed through God’s land.

She kept alive the hope

One day He’d understand

That she wanted to cross over

The river to the other side,

Where God lived in His kingdom

With those for whom Christ died.

She sat on the banks of the river

And waited for Christ to appear.

She knew her sins were many

And trembled when He drew near.

His eyes could see right through her,

Read her thoughts, see into her soul.

He knew she wanted to serve Him,

And love was her only goal.

So He bent down and lifted her

Into the flowing water.

He washed away her sins

And made her God’s daughter.

He placed her in God’s kingdom,

In the loveliest spot He could find,

To play with the laughing children,

For He knew her heart was kind.

God gave her pen and paper

And requested she write for Him.

He knew she was capable of writing

Lovely  poems and hymns.

Her past was soon forgotten

In God’s kingdom by the sea,

As she did what God wanted

And fulfilled her destiny.

I have always believed we needed three things in order to see ourselves clearly. First, we need feedback from others on what we are saying and doing. This is best illustrated in how a little child comes to know himself. He speaks and acts and his parents/family tell him by their body language whether they like him or don’t like him, whether they approve,or don’t approve of him, whether they see him as doing good or doing bad, and whether he is cherished or not by those he comes in contact with. Hopefully he grows up with people who can be fair and accepting of his good qualities as well as his bad ones. When that isn’t the case, he has major hurdles ahead of him about how he sees himself. This is a process that happens over a period of time. It does not happen quickly. Response after response has to occur  for those messages about himself to take root. These responses need to be constant.

Second, we need to be able to look inside ourselves and discover our intentions and motivations for doing things and saying things. We need to have the courage to look at those things we would rather hide from ourselves and others. We call this introspection. We cannot know who we are without taking an honest look. When we come from an abusive background, this can be hard to do if we have received strong negative messages from past loved ones. They sometimes get in the way of us making a fair assessment of ourselves.

Third, we need to stay in contact with God through prayer, through reading the scriptures, and we need to tap into our spiritual selves in order to understand the struggle between our human self and our spiritual self. God’s view of us takes precedence over the other two views. He can help us and guide us when all else fails. If we believe in Him, He will tell us what we need to do. God, ourselves, and others are truly needed in order to see ourselves more clearly.

FORGIVE ME, CHILD

Child and An Angel., Forgiveness, iamachild.wordpress.com, Patricia Bratt, Pinterest picture., safety

Dear Child,

Over the years I have been able to keep you safe and free from pain. Lately, I’ve done a pretty lousy job at being your protector. I’ve taken you places to get you help, to help you get healthy and to also see a kind, loving person who would understand your hurts, give you comfort, and encourage you to grow.

Someone who could help you more than I’ve been able to. I’m not sure any more if the treatments are making you healthy or worse physically. I’ve  listened to the Dr.s, but I’m not confident any more. I know I’ve done my best at doing the right thing, but that may not be enough. I have done all I know to give information, to answer questions, to be patient. They are not listening to you. Even when you speak, you are not being heard. Even when you give from your heart over and over, no one seems to hear or care. You’ve learned to ask for what you need, but they are not hearing. Maybe they do not want to hear. It is easier for them to ignore you or tell you “no,” until you stop asking them for what you need.

So tonight, I’m asking for your forgiveness, because I have failed you. To say that to you is the hardest thing I will ever do. I am giving you  to the angels to protect you until God comes to take you home. There you will find love, acceptance, and joy as you will never find it here on earth with other people.  The angels will be kind and gentle with you and you will matter to them. Remember always, you did nothing wrong. All you did was love as a child loves. That  is never wrong. It is the one thing in this world that is absolutely right. So rest in the arms of the angels tonight, dear child. I will sleep better knowing you are safe.
