If you are weary of the littleness of people and the wiles of despair and the repeated failures of the past,  then seek to know Nature clothed in all her splendid apparel. Observe her regal beauty and you shall be made whole.

Lift up your face to the ever constant moving sun and drink in its warmth which paints pale cheeks a rosy tan. Even the golden grains of wheat lift their heads to the sun and drink their fill. Follow the sinking ball of flames over the darkening horizon and you shall know its greatness, its vastness which only nature can fully reveal To humanity. The sun will teach you of faith.

Climb on to the open prairie and turn your face to the wind. The wild will toss your tangled locks in play and shall come in your wildest moments of dismay and tenderly wrap you in her warm embrace.

Encounter the gentle rain with its swift compassion. Its soft hands shall caress your bitter face and shall calm your trembling lips, brimming with scorn. The smell of the rain will cleanse and clear your savage thoughts. The rain shall teach you of love.

Observe the storm in its fury, untamed and yet, strangely gentle at times. The storm will teach you of humility.

Press your face to the wild flowers of the open fields and you will smell a fragrance of the ages long forgotten. See the tumbling river, heaving with laughter, rippling with quiet longing and drifting with unspoken wisdom beyond, always beyond.

Lie in the cool green shade of the meadows and the living earth will serve as a pillow for your head. Listen to the sweet songs of the Robin and the Meadowlark while the forgotten taste of honeysuckle moistens your lips.

Toil in the heat of the noon day sun until tiny rivulets of sweat drop to the earth. From dust we cometh and to dust we return. Seek to know these things and you shall be made whole.

Life is full of ups and downs, monotony and excitement, joy    and sorrow, disappointments      and rewards, promises kept and promises broken, anguish and laughter, bounty and poverty,   trust and uncertainty, faith and doubt, love and rejection,   sunshine, and rain, and      weakness and strength.

We are such complex creatures because we think thoughts and we experience feelings. We are capable of achieving great things or nothing in our lives. Our choices and our will decide what we actually do with the hours allotted to us. Perseverance, self-determination, and having a mission in life  all play a part as well.

Experiences we go through also have a great deal to do with what we end up achieving. Sometimes we are held back in our quest to fulfill  life’s journey by divorce, the betrayal of people we trust and love, illness, depression and anxiety, family, or financial problems. Sometimes we trust too much and we love too much. We end up getting our hearts  broken because we believe in people and their ability to be their best possible selves. We also have the tendency to become  blind to what is staring at us in front of our faces. We do this because deep down we need to believe in the goodness of the human heart and we ache for the approval of those we love. When we find rejection instead, it wounds us with a sharp blade and later finishes the job with a sword. Some have been hurt so much by past experiences , I suppose it is inevitable that a part of them would fall to the overwhelming feelings of shame and pain to become bitter, unable to believe again in the goodness of humanity.

Yet there are some of us that will roam around for a while in confusion and sadness until we can get our footing back. Some of these will isolate out of fear of being hurt again and others will reach out and seek love because they must. For inside them love burns with a small steady flame despite what happens in the outside world. They choose to believe. They choose love over hate. They know they need to love or they will lose some vital part of themselves.  We all ultimately choose whether to return hate with hate or return love when hated.

The subject of therapy is full of thoughts, feelings, and opinions depending upon the point of view of the person you talk to. The therapist has theories she uses in doing the therapy and she has a professional degree which influences what she does and how the therapy is done as well as what  she is allowed to do.

A therapist’s culture, religion, class, family, values, and life’s experiences usually play a part in what happens in the therapeutic encounter. There is also the factor of whether or not the therapist is dedicated to her work and is willing to put in the time and energy to be a good therapist. The most useful qualities a therapist possesses are the ability to communicate, to give and receive feedback, to negotiate, and have empathy for those she comes in contact with.

The successful therapist works with her client in setting goals, creating objectives to meet these goals, and evaluating the results of their work together. Good therapy relies on science, but it is an art, a creative endeavor in which two people come together and establish a sense of rapport, and engage in a dance of verbal and nonverbal communication. They learn to value and validate feelings within themselves in the process of therapy. They are both able to recognize the common humanity they both share and they learn to accept the strengths and weaknesses of one another.

The focus of therapy is the client and what is beneficial for his well-being physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually. The most powerful tools the therapist has in creating change in the client is being genuine,  having a sense of humility, being able to enter his emotional world and find the courage to be with him in his pain and suffering, and having the strength to impart hope in a new future for the client once the grieving subsides.

In good therapy, both the client and therapist are given the opportunity to grow emotionally and spiritually if they are open and honest in their dealings with one another. Successful therapy is filled with moments of insight, the sharing of feelings and thoughts,  mistakes, tears, laughter, frustration, and joy. The therapist and client have to work together to make this happen.

Appropriate touch has the incredible power to heal the wounded heart  in therapy. Encouraging a client to tap into his faith or belief in something greater than himself can also increase healing. Caring is always present in good therapy. It is the ability to love the client as a unique human being worthy of attention and respect and recognizing all of us are a part of the human race and in need of help at one time or another.
