Awareness of God's gifts, Dedication, gratitude, Lessons to learn, Poetry by Yu/stan/kema.

"Bless this day and all it brings"
Has been the very hardest thing
For me to say when life goes wrong,
And I am weak instead of strong.

I try to keep my head on straight
When I know I have to wait;
But wasting time seems like a sin,
And i could miss "what might have been."

I need to pause to realize
That good, at times, comes in disguise.
Waiting gives me time to grow,
For there is much I need to know.

I must learn to cope with strife
And follow the flow of Life;
To fight the battles I must win;
And rid the negative within.

If I could learn to see the good
And bless each day,I surely would;
But being human I will try
To trust God more and not ask "why."

A Baby, A beautiful thing, gratitude, Joy, laughter, Pinterest photo- M. Bezjian., Poetry by Yu/stan/kema., smell, soul with wings, words, Yours to keep.

The world is full

Of beautiful things:

A baby’s sweet laughter,

A soul that grows wings;

Found on Pinterest on 6-18-16. M. Bezjian.

A baby’s first word

And the emotion you feel,

When she says the word “Mama,

And love becomes real;

The smell of her hair

When your cheek lies against it;

The touch of her skin,

When you caress  her a bit;

Her scent when she’s clean,

And you rock her to sleep,

And the joy that comes

When gratitude runs deep.

You know there is nothing

On earth that can beat,

The feeling: ” this baby

Is yours to keep.”

THE GIVER

On the day you were born,

Whales danced in the sea.

Found on Pinterest on 11-6-15.

Found on Pinterest on 11-06-15.

Birds took to the heavens.

God smiled down on me.

He knew you were coming

To give me a gift,

To mend my heart, broken

And heal a huge rift.

In His infinite wisdom,

He knew of the wealth

That lay deep inside you

Just being “your self.”

He must have cared greatly

To send me to you.

You are so like Him

In all that you do.

I’m taking this moment

So that you’ll  see,

The “thank you”  is real

That’s coming from me.

I seek in prayerful words,….

My heart’s true wish to send you,

That you may know that, far or near,

My loving thoughts attend you.

I cannot find a truer word,

Nor better to address you;

Nor song, nor poem have I heard

Is sweeter than God bless you!

God bless you! So I’ve wished you all

Of brightness life possesses;

For can there any joy at all

Be yours unless God blesses?

God bless you! So I breathe a charm

Lest grief’s dark night oppress you,

For how can sorrow bring you harm

If ’tis God’s way to bless you?

And so,”through all thy days

May shadows touch thee never–“

But this alone–God bless thee–

Then art thou safe forever.

Searching For Peace.

I think it is easy for us to get caught up in addictions without even being aware of what we are doing until it starts taking over our lives and changing the way we interact with people, or treat our pets. We get so caught up with the excitement, the distraction it provides,  that it seduces us. It is only when we realize we no longer have peace or happiness, that we come to terms with the realization something is wrong. Sometimes we even sacrifice pieces of ourselves to feed the addiction. We stay up late, do things we know damages our health, and we try to convince ourselves that what we are doing has great value to us. It also keeps us from taking advantage of all the things around us that we now have. We become consumed by the addiction. Sometimes we neglect family, responsibilities, pets, spirituality, health, and other relationships.

I became addicted to the computer, to writing. It was a way to escape my illness, facing my eight-hour infusions in the hospital every two weeks, my grief over losing someone, and having to deal with new changes in my life-style because of illness and retirement. So I decided to go two weeks without blogging. I set myself up with a schedule of doing things I did three years ago when I felt happy and peaceful.

I set myself up to read a devotional every morning and to pray. I stayed off the computer except to go through e-mails and delete the ads, and the political ones so when I came back in two weeks to answer the ones I needed to, I wouldn’t be overwhelmed. I watched DVD’s on T.V., but not many. I read the paper every morning. I took the time to go out and meet with friends, do acts of charity toward others, and do errands. I read books for pleasure and books for self-improvement.

Every day I tried to do something creative: write a story in longhand, write in a journal, and use my hands to make something. I spent more time outdoors. I increased the time I spent with my dogs and threw balls to them.

I made sure I ate two meals a day, slept 6-7 hours at night, took my medications as prescribed, scheduled chores when I had the energy, and had a small list of chores to try and accomplish every day. Social activities were planned every week. I used DBT skills to deal with emotions: distraction, deep breathing, self-soothing activities,  and I tended to my own needs. That was new for me. I learned to start accepting things I could not change and began to appreciate the things I have now.

I became kinder to myself in terms of being more accepting of my weaknesses, my thoughts, and feelings, and learned not to reject what was imperfect in me. The surprise was I found peace inside me by making me do those things which would create joy, peace, and good feelings. I feel more grateful for the things I have now and prayer has helped me feel more hopeful. The hard part is going to be to regulate my time on the computer so it doesn’t interfere with living, to finally let go of relationships that aren’t helpful in building self-esteem, and to improve my health. Peace and happiness lie within me, not other people. People can support you and care for you, but ultimately peace and happiness starts within you.

Ella Wheeler Wilcox, friendship, Google+ picture, gratitude, helpful words, poem, The sea

There are special people who enter our lives, who reach out in times of hardship and say the words that give us hope, renew our faith, and lift us up out of the darkness. When we are wrapped up in our grief, sometimes we fail to see it or acknowledge it. I want to thank the people in my life who have been consistent in doing this for me, for I am most grateful. They nourish my soul.

ACCEPT MY FULL HEART’S THANKS

Your words came just when needed.

Like a breeze,

Blowing and bringing from the wide salt sea

Some cooling spray, to meadow scorched with heat

And choked with dust and clouds of sifted sand

That hateful whirlwinds, envious of its bloom,

Had tossed upon it. But the cool sea breeze

Came laden with the odors of the sea

And damp with spray, that laid the dust and sand

And brought new life and strength to blade and bloom.

So words of thine came over miles to me,

Fresh from the mighty sea, a true friend’s heart,

And brought me hope, and strength, and swept away

The dusty webs that human spiders spun

Across my path. Friend, and the word means much–

So few there are who reach like thee, a hand

Up over all the barking curs of spite

And give the clasp, when most its need is felt,

Friend, newly found, , accept my full heart’s thanks.

Sometimes I find myself  deeply submerged in the words of men and women who lived before me or who are still writing- Giants in philosophy, literature, and religion. The words they write resound in the chambers of my heart and soul and I am shaken by their wisdom and experience. The words they write dance in the consciousness of my mind. The rhythm of words synchronizes with the beat of my heart. The beauty and the magic that they create is like a gift and I receive it with trembling hands and a humble heart. How can any one adequately describe the joy and peace their words bring to a soul as starved as mine for enlightenment? For a while, I am infused with peace and serenity.  I walk today in their footsteps across the corridors of time. My soul flies with them to the stars and I find myself reluctant to take the trip back to the earth. I am touched by their compassion and their skill to get right to the heart of an issue. How does one adequately say: “Thank you for making my soul sing?” “Thank you for bringing joy into my life?” I am blessed because of the gift they gave.

GRATITUDE FEEDS THE HEART AND SOUL. #2

Gratitude Lives Within The Heart

Gratitude is a virtue and it is  seldom seen in society at this time in history. Every type of media infiltrates the human mind with images, words and sounds of violence, hatred, discrimination, and disrespect. The human mind is told it is entitled to everything it sees, touches,or wants, even at the cost of trampling someone else’s needs or rights. Lies are told about others with a straight face. Instead of lifting people up who are struggling, there appears to be a deliberate effort to tear them down. What happened to acceptance of other people who may be different in some way from others in terms of race, creed, color, sexual orientation, and social class? Where can we find  compassion for the poor, the homeless, the unemployed, the disabled, and vets returning from the battlefields scarred in body, mind, and soul? Whatever happened to charity and kindness for the lonely, the poor in spirit, minds broken from abuse, families shattered from divorce, and men and women struggling with emotional problems who are trying to keep themselves alive one day at a time?

There but by the grace of God, it could be me without money, no job in sight, no home to shelter me from the hot sun or freezing rains. It could be me broken in spirit, filled with emotional pain, and without family to support me in a time of need.

Who is willing to step up to the plate and speak for them, fight for them, and give to them?  Society refuses to accept the fact that we are all in this together and we are all struggling to survive. All of us were born naked and helpless into this world and we will all die when our time comes. Whether we survive with the help of others or die alone depends on each one of us. We are bound by the human condition, We are all searching for a way back to God so we can be reunited and become one with the Great Spirit, Elohim, Allah, whatever name  we choose to call what we are yearning to return to. We are the ones who choose to either help or ignore those less fortunate than we are. Whether we want to accept it or not, we are bound by something greater than ourselves.

The meaning of Gratitude is the acknowledgement of receiving a gift from someone and letting that person know what it means to you that time was spent on you. Robert Emmons wrote: ” there are two key components that make up gratitude: one is an affirmation that there are good things in this world; the other, a recognition that the source of this goodness lies outside of yourself. You acknowledge that other people or even a higher power gave you gifts in order to help you enjoy the goodness in your life.” He also said,” Gratitude requires you to see how you’ve been supported and affirmed by other people and it encourages you, not only to appreciate the gifts, but to pay them forward.” We, out of joy, are motivated to give back to others with no expectations being present. We  develop humbleness because we come to recognize we are not entitled to anything. We cannot take other people for granted. We should develop a sense of wonder and a sense of appreciation when these gifts come our way. This does not negate us, this humbleness. Instead it teaches us our proper place in the universe and that God is behind every good and perfect thing.

“Gratitude refer’s to the heart remembering the good that has been done or given to us by God and others and us taking the time to thank them for it. It has a quality of humbleness attached to it. Rather than seeing it as things we deserve or things we are entitled to, we instead admit to God, others, and ourselves we have been given a gift and we recognize the spirit in which the Gift was given. When we give thanks, we should do so with a sincere heart. It matters not how much we say it. It only matters that we keep our hearts open and receptive to seeing the good that is all around us and we do not take it for granted, nor do we dismiss the person that has given it to us. The greatest gifts that we can give to one another are honesty, self-sacrifice, time, focused attention, forgiveness, and love. Below, are two more quotes on Gratitude.”                                                             Yu/stan/kema
