Child, of the day time,

Why do you roam?

“I seek a place where I belong,

A  safe retreat called  home,

Where no one does me wrong.”

Child, surrounded by darkness,

Whom do you seek?

“I travel to find a  good friend

Who doesn’t think I’m weak,

Who will stay to the end.”

Child, of unknown origin,

Who do you think you are?

“I know that I am a child of God.

I come from a distant star,

With a soul like the Goldenrod.”

Child, full of confidence,

What do you hope to do?

“I hope to follow the steps

Of Christ….To love the good

And  the flaws in you.”

Deep inside

The soul

Lie parts

Of us

That  strive

To sleep,

Avoiding things

Better left

Alone,

Trying

To find

Some kind

Of peace

So needed

By the mind.

There are

Times

The parts

Fight

Among

Themselves,

For resolution

Of

Strong feelings

and thoughts

Long buried

In the

Graveyard

Of the mind.

The parts

Must learn

To work

Together

In harmony

And find a way

To respect

The value

Each part has

In insuring

The survival

Of the self.

True compassion

Is needed

For each

To be

Committed

To helping

One another

Find hope

And joy

In living.

A little girl is here to stay

And grabs us with her winsome ways.

Her curls are bouncing on her head.

She charms us with the poems she’s read.

She dances on her tiny feet

And never seems to miss a beat

When singing songs she sings out loud.

I know her Mother would be proud.

She wraps us right around her heart

When ever we see tear drops start.

She’s  careful with her little doll,

And never seems to mind at all

When we have to discipline

Her when she’s having so much fun.

God gave us such a priceless pearl

When he sent us this small girl.

Anger is a primitive emotion and the intensity of it when not regulated and controlled causes us to disrupt our own lives as well as the lives of others. It is an emotion that is sometimes used to mask other feelings such as sadness, fear, or hurt. Anger gives us a reason to throw up walls, and sometimes distance from others when we feel threatened or unsafe. When we do not regulate anger, it can cause us to say things and do things that make the situation worse. Yet anger can be useful if we are in an unsafe situation or someone is violating our space or boundaries. Anger can also help motivate us to get tasks done. It can encourage us to stand up for our own needs. When it runs unchecked, it can affect both the heart and soul. The following poem is about anger:

Anger runs

Underground,

Out of sight

And I…

I try

So damn hard

To hold tight

To control

And find

It’s just an

Illusionary

Concept.

I wish

I could be

More adept

At expressing

Rage….

To get that

Feeling out

And destroy

All who have

Unfeelingly

Destroyed me.

But will that

In turn

Make me free

Or kill all hope

And ruin

My destiny.

What Kind Of World Could We Make?

Think what the world could be like if we were adults who made intelligent, moral decisions, accomplished our duties and responsibilities, and still had the open mind of a child who believed anything is possible. What if we could still play exuberantly, love nature more than we love buildings and technology, love with the soul of a child, and share without fear, our thoughts, our dreams, and needs with one another? What if we were able to accept people as friends based on their authentic selves without prejudice of any kind? What if we were able to trust God as a child trusts? Would our world be a better place to live and raise children in? I’d like to think so.

Because I love the earth, I will look out for her.

Because I love joy, I will enjoy life with all my senses.

Because I love freely and without fear, I will see to my needs, and the needs of others.

Because my eyes and heart remains open, I will see every person as my brother or sister.

Because I am eager to share, I will reveal to others my ideas, thoughts , and feelings without compensation.

Because I love God with all my heart and soul, I will trust Him and learn to accept His will.

This gives us a different perspective on life. Think about it!

Values of Christ.

At one point in time, before I retired,  I looked at the comparison between my profession’s core values and the values that Christ lived. Christ came to enhance an individual’s well-being in many ways-spiritually, physically, emotionally, and socially. My profession seeks the same. Christ helped meet the needs of all people, not just those that followed him, or certain sects. He met people in their environments and He addressed their needs and sought to empower those who were vulnerable, oppressed, and living in poverty. Christ  focused on environmental forces that prevented the growth and development of all people. He taught acceptance, inclusiveness, love, giving to others, especially those who were discriminated against. He promoted social justice and advocated for social change.

The New Testament is full of incidents where Jesus advocated for the rights of others who had been cut off from society. When others sought to stone a woman caught in the act of adultery, He wrote on the ground with His finger to remind them that we all sin at times and that she deserved compassion and forgiveness. He chose to go where the outcasts ate. He broke bread with them and drank wine with Gentiles, tax collectors, prostitutes, and other types of sinners. He reached out and touched the sick: the one with leprosy, the woman with an issue of blood who touched His hem, and He stopped to cast out demons in others. He confronted the Pharisees and Sadducees who judged others too harshly. Jesus showed compassion for the most vulnerable members in society. He also left us with a responsibility to care for those in need.

These values reflect the life He lived. They also reflect the core values of Social Work:

  1. Service. Jesus was a servant to others. His whole life was spent addressing and meeting the needs of others.
  2. Social Justice. Jesus constantly advocated for others to help the sick, the poor, and the disenfranchised of society. He spoke against social inequality.
  3. The Dignity and Worth of Each Person. Christ taught us to treat people in a caring and respectful way. He was aware of each difference and cultural and ethnic diversity. He believed in  enhancing a person’s self-determination. He engaged people as partners in their healing process.
  4. The Importance of Human relationships. Jesus demonstrated to us how to forgive and love others. He showed us that sometimes we have to make sacrifices in life to help one another.
  5. Integrity. Jesus was trustworthy. He was honest and responsible. He always kept His promises. People could depend on Him to do what He said He would do.
  6. Competence. Christ sought knowledge from others and He wanted to help others grow and develop their potential. He taught knowledge to those around Him using Parables.

I had a dream the other night

That God sat on His throne.

He bent His head and spoke to me

With such a loving tone.

Found on Google+ on 3-4-15. Mary Rose

Found on Google+ on 3-4-15. Curiano.com

He said sometimes we just don’t know

The reasons  things occur.

But He is able to foresee

The big picture.

I sat by God and saw this child

That struggled to survive.

He seemed so sad and so alone,

Unloved and so deprived.

I saw a hundred other kids

Who had it just as bad.

I saw God wipe away a tear.

He looked so very sad.

Then He spoke about a plan

To make such children smile:

He sent a special woman down

To make their lives worth while.

I was astonished when I saw

The life that she would live.

He gave to her a mother’s love,

The power to forgive.

She gave a lot straight from her heart.

She wiped away their tears.

She guided lives with loving care

Through out their childhood years.

God knew she needed special skills,

A warm and gentle soul.

To mend broken hearts like these

And make the pieces whole.

And so He placed her in their lives

And watched them grow, with pride.

Because He knew she took His love

and placed it inside

Every child she touched with care.

God’s love was passed along

Until His love was multiplied

And it became a song.

Book Review: “In The Garden Of Happiness” by Dodinsky.

One of my favorite activities is to visit Barnes and Noble. There is something about books that mesmerize me. It’s like here, within these walls, stands a fountain of knowledge, inspiration, and excitement. You are taken to places you’ve never been, shared thoughts and feelings with someone you’ve never met, but the intimacy you enjoy makes you feel you are similar in spirit.

Before the age of ten, i never had access to a book except at school. Then my world opened up at the age of ten and I was taken to the public library, the school library, and a private library which was filled with World War I and World War II Surgery Books which I read cover to cover. There were a slew of books on psychiatry and I read the works of Karen Horney, Harry Stack Sullivan, Freud, and Jung. I read books by Gene Stratton Porter, Albert Terhune’s dog stories, and hundreds of other books of fiction. From the public library, week after week. I would check out 10 + books a week. I could not seem to  read enough. The more I read, the hungrier I became.

I feel such joy in a book store. I feel so much excitement. For me, it’s like the feeling one has when coming home after being away for a long period of time. I feel like I belong there. Today, I was going through the self-help books and psychology books and found a treasure of a book: ” In The Garden of Happiness,” written by Dodinsky and illustrated by Ignacio G. It is a book written for any one who has ever lost his/her  inner child.. It is a book of comfort and is full of positive affirmations as well as ideas for coping with painful emotions and stressors. An excerpt from the book reads, ” Whenever you manage to smile in spite of the hardships you’re facing, it means your soul is refusing to be a prisoner of your own sorrows.” Published in 2015 by source books. The illustrations are really fantastic.

Children’s faces often seem to have an inner light radiating from them. It highlights the planes of their faces. There is also a touch of wonder, of exuberance, that warms us to the depths of our soul. They often sing to themselves in order to express the happiness they feel. They are open and honest and can tell the truth with such razor-sharp accuracy. Children’s feet are never still. They skip, glide, whirl, and dance. They love with such intensity and share affection readily. Their hearts are filled with innocence and their smiles can melt the coldest heart. There is nothing sweeter than their laughter or as ingratiating as their mischievousness. The world could not survive without the joy of children.           Yu/stan/kema.

Breakthrough

I read your poetry today

Words expressing feelings,

Feelings that really

Have no words.

Found on www.itsalovelylife.com on 12-28-14.

Found on http://www.itsalovelylife.com on 12-28-14.

And I wept

Because

I know

Those feelings well

And some how

You made me see

You are no God

Of stone,

But just like me:

Filled with hunger,

Warmed by love,

Touched by pain,

Hurt by need.

Tears fall

While reading

Your words

And I feel

I am one

with you,

Touched by you,

Warmed by you,

Filled with

Something close

Akin to love.

Love that comes

From knowing

Who you really are:

Not a role,

Not a mask,

But feelings.

Feelings that

Really have

No words.
