I step into a room filled with silence.
A glowing rock illuminates the space
Between two chairs facing each other.
A table lamp adds light in the place.

I sit and wait, holding my breath,
For someone to quietly enter,
Sit peacefully across from me,
And start this new adventure.

She greets me with a gentle smile
And sits in the opposite chair.
She leans forward and invites me
To relax and become aware:

Aware of my current surroundings
And attuned to all of my senses,
Conscious of my present thoughts,
And my emotional defenses.

We explore and discuss what is needed
To bring me back to my Self,
And what skills I need to learn
To improve my emotional health.

We agree to work together
Using honesty and respect
To regulate my emotions
And deal with feelings of neglect.

This room is no longer silent.
It's a refuge for me,
A place for my soul to grow,
And my spirit to fly free.

Please, promise me, my little one

Found on Pinterest on 6-19-16. Fathers.

That as you grow into a man,

You’ll set goals for yourself

And do the best that you can.

It doesn’t matter if you fail

Or succeed in what you do,

As long as you feel satisfied

And keep the values found in you.

Promise me, as time goes by,

You’ll stop to help those in need,

Regardless of their circumstance,

Their race, income, or creed.

Establish time to get to know

The God who loves you for yourself

And sees within your great heart,

Your goodness and your soul’s wealth.

Make this a goal in your life,

To make the world a better place,

Before God calls you home with Him,

To live forever in His grace.

When all is said and done

Is thrown on top of me,

Will anyone ever take

The time to recognize

That the woman

I yearn to be

No longer resides

In this temporal form,

But has gone to join

Her light with the Son.

It is true her only crime

Was forgiving  others

Found on Pinterest on 10-21-15.

Found on Pinterest on 10-21-15.

And loving others

Too much.

Her love for nature

Was strong.

She would often give

People a gentle touch

And share her words

In a soothing rhyme.

She had little, but gave much.

She would make right

Any perceived wrong,

Give help to others

In life’s storms.

She sought to be

With the wounded,

Kind and warm.

She did not aim

To make a fortune

Or run after fame,

But to sing her song.

She sought to achieve:

A love of good books;

In God, to have faith;

To become a good cook;

To finally feel safe;

In others, to believe;

To earn people’s trust;

To be a good mother,

And be a great friend;

To respect Mother nature,

And to “Be Love,” in the end.

Psychotherapy

You have decided to take a leap of faith and go on a journey filled with excitement but also uncertainty with a person you have not met nor do you know anything about this professional. You will come to trust her over time and you will expect her to look out for your own best interests.

It is scary to learn to trust someone you barely know in the therapeutic relationship. It is hard to take a good look at the issues that bring you to a place where you can learn to communicate in a more productive way and learn to share your feelings, your thoughts, and sometimes your spiritual struggles. But in the right place and with the right therapist, you learn that it’s OK to be human and make mistakes, that crying can be a source of strength and not weakness, that sometimes everything is not your fault,and there are times when you need to accept responsibility for actions that hurt others and yourself.

You learn to have compassion for yourself and for others, and you learn to set boundaries in order to protect yourself and the people you come in contact with. In such a place as this, she will respect any boundary you set about discussing spiritual matters, but if you want to express your doubts, fears, and even anger, she will be accepting of where you are in your relationship with God.

If it is a good therapeutic relationship, she will laugh with you, share tears  when you are struggling with losses, gently steer you in the right direction during times of confusion and denial, and comfort you in times of sadness. She will help you set goals for your life and action plans to meet those goals. Therapy can be a fearful process to engage in, but the rewards are many and you will grow in your relationship with yourself, other people, and God.
