Found on Pinterest on 3-9-16. Christ in the air.
It is the time for Christmas
For we smell the Christmas trees
And see the Holly's red berries
Wrapped around the wreaths.

The weather has turned colder
And snow is in the air.
There is a spirit of giving
Found in hearts everywhere.

The sound of Christmas carols
Makes our spirits bright.
We celebrate the Christ child
Who reflects God's light.

God gives to us His Son,
A gift that sets us free
From death so we can live
For all eternity.

Christ, Christmas Day, Eternal life, gifts, giving, God's greatest gift

Holy is the One who came

To save us from our sins.

God gave to us His greatest gift

To help us make amends.

He sent His Son to die for us

And gave us life eternal.

He helps us deal with obstacles

Because He is paternal.

On Christmas Day we honor Christ

For all He did for us,

And when we give we can

extend

The gifts of blessedness.

Peace comes to me in the morning

And alights soft as an angel’s wing.

Joy fills my heart to overflowing

And compels my soul to sing.

Love flows through me to my family

And out to a hurting world.

Patience teaches me to wait

For God’s plan to be unfurled.

Faith grows as time goes on,

And I leave the world behind.

I learn how to be more caring

With Jesus inside my mind.

Hope rises within my soul

Despite the gloom and the darkness.

For I know all of us can reflect

The light of God’s great goodness.

THE GIFT OF LIFE.

The seed  falls on fallow ground,

Full of the possibility of a new tomorrow.

It waits in the dark cocoon of night

For the spring rains to come and kiss

The outer shell with needed moisture.

Droplets of rain fall gently against its skin.

It cracks open with a shout of exaltation.

It raises its tiny seedling leaves

And inches up through dirt and rock,

Needing the warmth of the sun’s rays.

Like liquid gold, the sun’s heat and light

Flows through its tiny leaves and stem.

Held in the sun’s embrace, the tree grows

With each gentle rain that falls,

Reveling in the strength of its trunk,

Its branches reaching upward,

And its green leaves seeking the sky.

Power, grace, and courage,

All come together to create beauty,

In a world torn with war and sorrow.

The tree sways, creaks, and bends

Under the force of the wind.

Yet it remains upright, strong,

 Transcending mediocrity

To become a gift of Life.

Christmas is a very special time of the year for me. I’ll be seeing my son and his partner on Christmas, and the scene above reminds me of the happiness I will have. The scene invites me to remember all the joy the season brings: being with the people I love, sitting before a blazing fire, enjoying the good food my son makes, and making Christmas dinner with him. His house is always cheerfully decorated at Christmas. I often meet his friends and neighbors that stop by. We have a wonderful heart warming time.

I love Christmas. It reminds me of the greatest gift given to mankind, God’s Son, and all the promises that are a part of that when we accept God’s gift. A manger was part of my decorations on Christmas: a hand-made stable made of lumber and tree bark and the many life like figurines I placed around the manger. As I grew older, the tree became harder to get up, but I always put out my manger and the figurines, given to me each Christmas from my son.

I love the smell of pine trees and firs in the air as well as cedars. We had a live tree in our house until I found out my son and I were both allergic to it. How glorious the smell was though. There is nothing like it. We would decorate the tree, and the miniature lights were the best part. I would put out all the decorations he had made. It was such a lovely sight. I have an audiotape of a Christmas, long ago, of him waking up, and the sound of his laughter as his shoes hit the floor and him running for the Christmas tree. So many precious memories I still see and hear around this time of the year. As you grow old, these memories enrich your days and remind you of the most important things in life.

My son was born in December. He was the only baby born around Christmas at the hospital. The following photo reminds me of  that Christmas. He was the dearest gift I ever received.

I hope this Christmas will be a happy one for you, and  that the days ahead in the new year will hold wonderful memories  for you and your loved ones. Best wishes for the Holidays.

14-1-cardinals.Nov.23,14. Found on Google+.

I  looked out my front window the other day and saw two cardinals in my front yard. One of them was a brilliant color of red. The other was less flashy in color. The colors of the bird’s body was very muted. I wondered why, at the time, the female was the less glamorous of the two. After all, she’s the one that keeps the flock of birds growing. The male bird has to be able to find her to court her. Upon further reflection, I decided her coloring helps to hide the nest she built and  she is able to forage for food for the little ones and make it back to the nest without being detected.

The male, however, is a brilliant red color whose coat can be seen by both friend and foe. God could have taken the time to make him subdued, but I think God knew that man needed such a bird to streak across the sky, red as fire, to remind us all the cost God paid, for our souls to fly free in the sunlight.

My heart soars when I see them perched on my front porch. I never forget to say a little thanks for I know they are a gift from “He who created all things both large and small.”

GRATITUDE FEEDS THE HEART AND SOUL. #2

Gratitude Lives Within The Heart

Gratitude is a virtue and it is  seldom seen in society at this time in history. Every type of media infiltrates the human mind with images, words and sounds of violence, hatred, discrimination, and disrespect. The human mind is told it is entitled to everything it sees, touches,or wants, even at the cost of trampling someone else’s needs or rights. Lies are told about others with a straight face. Instead of lifting people up who are struggling, there appears to be a deliberate effort to tear them down. What happened to acceptance of other people who may be different in some way from others in terms of race, creed, color, sexual orientation, and social class? Where can we find  compassion for the poor, the homeless, the unemployed, the disabled, and vets returning from the battlefields scarred in body, mind, and soul? Whatever happened to charity and kindness for the lonely, the poor in spirit, minds broken from abuse, families shattered from divorce, and men and women struggling with emotional problems who are trying to keep themselves alive one day at a time?

There but by the grace of God, it could be me without money, no job in sight, no home to shelter me from the hot sun or freezing rains. It could be me broken in spirit, filled with emotional pain, and without family to support me in a time of need.

Who is willing to step up to the plate and speak for them, fight for them, and give to them?  Society refuses to accept the fact that we are all in this together and we are all struggling to survive. All of us were born naked and helpless into this world and we will all die when our time comes. Whether we survive with the help of others or die alone depends on each one of us. We are bound by the human condition, We are all searching for a way back to God so we can be reunited and become one with the Great Spirit, Elohim, Allah, whatever name  we choose to call what we are yearning to return to. We are the ones who choose to either help or ignore those less fortunate than we are. Whether we want to accept it or not, we are bound by something greater than ourselves.

The meaning of Gratitude is the acknowledgement of receiving a gift from someone and letting that person know what it means to you that time was spent on you. Robert Emmons wrote: ” there are two key components that make up gratitude: one is an affirmation that there are good things in this world; the other, a recognition that the source of this goodness lies outside of yourself. You acknowledge that other people or even a higher power gave you gifts in order to help you enjoy the goodness in your life.” He also said,” Gratitude requires you to see how you’ve been supported and affirmed by other people and it encourages you, not only to appreciate the gifts, but to pay them forward.” We, out of joy, are motivated to give back to others with no expectations being present. We  develop humbleness because we come to recognize we are not entitled to anything. We cannot take other people for granted. We should develop a sense of wonder and a sense of appreciation when these gifts come our way. This does not negate us, this humbleness. Instead it teaches us our proper place in the universe and that God is behind every good and perfect thing.

“Gratitude refer’s to the heart remembering the good that has been done or given to us by God and others and us taking the time to thank them for it. It has a quality of humbleness attached to it. Rather than seeing it as things we deserve or things we are entitled to, we instead admit to God, others, and ourselves we have been given a gift and we recognize the spirit in which the Gift was given. When we give thanks, we should do so with a sincere heart. It matters not how much we say it. It only matters that we keep our hearts open and receptive to seeing the good that is all around us and we do not take it for granted, nor do we dismiss the person that has given it to us. The greatest gifts that we can give to one another are honesty, self-sacrifice, time, focused attention, forgiveness, and love. Below, are two more quotes on Gratitude.”                                                             Yu/stan/kema

” We must find time to stop and thank the people who make a difference in our lives.”                                             John F. Kennedy

” Gratitude takes nothing for granted, is never unresponsive, is constantly awakening to new wonder and to praise of the goodness of God.” Thomas Morton                                                                                                                                                                                                   HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERY ONE!

 My Gifts

If I could give you a rainbow

To brighten your day for a while,

If I could send you a cardinal,

To bring back your wonderful smile,

I would do it all in a minute

And then like the night steal away

Knowing I’d given you something

Although it would  last but a day.

If I could give you a flower,

The loveliest one I could find,

If I could give you a beautiful thought

That you could hold in your mind,

I would do it all in a minute

And then like the night steal away

Knowing I’d given you something

Although it might last but a day.

If I could give you a small stream

That laughed as it gurgled along,

If I could give you the mountains

To put in your heart a song,

I would do it all in a minute

And then like the night steal away

Knowing I’d given you something.

Happy I taught you to pray.

If I could give you a cool wind

To cleanse the care from your face,

If I could give you the soft rain

That falls with hardly a trace,

I would do it all in a minute

And then like the night steal away

Knowing I’d given you something

Although it would last but a day.

But I’ve only my smiles to offer,

Joys and sorrows to share,

A handful of wonderful moments,

Assurance of knowing I care.

These I would give in a minute

And then like the night steal away,

Happy I’d given you something

That would  last far more than a day.
