Life is full of joy and sorrow.
We never know what comes tomorrow.
We make plans with baited breath
While pushing back the hands of death.
We try to play the hero's part
With an arrow in our heart.

We gather flowers as we go.
The years fly by and bring us woe.
The losses come one by one,
And we feel our life is done.
We are told to carry on
And embrace the coming dawn.

We feel such emptiness within.
We weep for what life might have been.
Our hopes and dreams have flown away,
And still we're staying one more day.
Our courage keeps us living here
After losing all that's dear.

There once was a bird

who had no song.

He would try to sing,

but it felt all wrong.

His heart was broken.

His mother had died.

He felt so lost and

empty inside.

Photo-Found on Pinterest. Quote: Kahlil Gibran. Every Day Spirit.

He thought he would

never sing a tune.

So he tried his best

to bay at the moon.

But it felt all wrong,

and he fell asleep.

When the morning came,

he could only weep.

He refused to sit

in his nest all day.

So he chirped with birds

along the way.

They introduced him

to friends.

He finally felt that

he could mend.

On one of his flights,

He met a brown bird,

and he fell in love

with just a word.

They built a nest

and lined it with care.

Soon, little birds

chirped everywhere.

The bird who thought

he could not sing,

lifted his feathers

and took wing.

He sang, ” Cheer,cheer, “

with such great love,

That God sent him praise

from the heavens above.

Fear gallops across the landscape of my mind.

Uncontrolled stress hits me from behind.

My heart races and beats like a drum.

Thoughts disappear and feelings become numb.

Muscles grow tight holding it all in.

I become convinced there’s no way to win.

I cut off my thoughts and say they don’t exist.

I let fear control me and watch myself twist.

I cry out in shame and lose all my pride.

I hold fear within and find a place to hide.

Still, I can find courage living in me

And commit to a process to set us all free.

I will act on a commitment to trust others more.

I will reach out my hand and seek to restore

The Self that I lost in the long ago

When my heart was crushed with a terrible blow.

I will learn to breathe deep and let muscles relax

While I connect with my parts and remove my mask.

When your tender heart is broken

in tiny, little pieces

and hope is slowly dying

inside you ’til it ceases;

When dreams become illusions

and nothing else is real,

past ideals have crumbled,

and you find that you can’t feel;

When life seems sad and empty

and your insides hollowed out,

you know you are drowning,

but you can’t even shout

For someone to help you

and take you by your hand,

who restores your faith in people

and says she understands.

It is time to dig inside you

and really dig deep

to find a lot of courage

even as you weep.

Hold it tight within you

and call it by it’s name.

Sweep out past mistakes

and stop the self-blame.

Observe the world around you

and enjoy Nature’s gifts.

Try to find the positives

and give yourself a lift.

For life cannot get better

if you sit in deep despair

and refuse to make an effort

to find others who care.

A BAND OF BROTHERS.

Found on Pinterest on 7-21-18. Sarah Carol Ann Broaddus saved to wars(Vietnam).

We are a band of brothers

And we stand strong.

We look out for each other

Even though the days are long.

We are a band of brothers

Who don’t accept defeat.

We have fought in many battles

On land and in the street.

We are a group of men

From all walks of life.

Our skins are different colors,

And we fight with guns and knifes

We fight for truth and justice,

And the right to live free,

So others can be treated

With respect and dignity.

We fight our foes in battle.

We’re aware that we might die,

But we watch out for each other,

And we’re not afraid to cry.

We have seen our brothers fall

In battle as we fight.

When we have to close their eyes,

We know war isn’t right.

We are taught to follow orders,

To get the job done,

To achieve different tasks

Until the battle is won.

We are a band of brothers,

In life and in death.

We will always feel connected

Until our last breath.

I feel compassion for birds,

For the wind is strong today.

I watch the tree branches bend

As they dance and sway

To some unheard melody

Found on Pinterest on 3-7-17.” Living in the Green Wood.” Ivan Alifan.

That only trees can hear.

The trees stand tall and proud

In the gale without fear.

Why can’t I be more like a tree

And bend with the winds in life?

Instead I get caught up in them,

And feel a load of strife.

I wish that I could stand as tall

As the oak tree out back.

Instead I want to run away.

It’s courage that I lack.

One day I’ll be as brave as trees

That bend with the wind.

I’ll learn to stay above the fray,

And accept what life sends.

I’ll learn to be as patient

As the trees that wait for Spring,

And when I see my new-found growth,

I’ll hear the angels sing.

His hair was a mess.

His face was full of joy.

He was talking to himself

With no one in sight.

In his hand was a toy.

He was setting things right.

He said to the soldier

Made of plastic in his hand:

“I know you think I’m weak,

But you’ve got to understand.

I’m nine years old, going on ten

I’m taking care of all, the best I can.

Nobody cares what happens to me.

I’m trying to become a decent man.

It takes a lot of courage

To learn to cope

With a life without love,

Yet still have hope.”

My little dreams float on the water,

Water smooth as sheets of ice.

No one sees them as they linger.

But for me, they will suffice.

Little prayers go up to heaven

Asking for some sweet relief,

From my trials and tribulations,

And the darkness of my grief.

I knock on the doors before me.

They are closed and barred today.

I am growing faint  from trying.

No one’s asking me to stay.

I walk the forests and the valleys

Looking for a place to sleep.

I am cold, lost, and lonely,

As the shadows round me creep.

Life is  filled with many losses.

I have struggled to find

A little hope to keep me going,

For the years have not been kind.

So I learn to keep on walking,

Putting courage in my soul,

Trying hard to not be bitter

Towards the things that take a toll.

There are seasons of the mind

That  we come in contact with

Through out time.

We need to decide

Whether we want to be

Aware or unaware of

The changes.

It takes courage to see

What triggered us to cause

The darkness of depression

Or the joy in giving

Heart-felt love.

It takes strength to gain

insight into Anger

And the beginning of Shame.

It takes truthfulness to see

And hold ourselves accountable

For our part in incidents.

It takes character to admit

When we are wrong and

Need to be responsible for

Making amends to those we hurt.

Openness is essential

As well as mindfulness

To make the connections between

The past and the present,

The thought and the feeling,

The heart and the soul,

and

Our behaviors and  values.

It is through such scrutiny

That we will gain the skills

To deal with the aspects of

The seasons of the mind.

Timothy Heron Learns A Lesson In Courage. ( Part One).

Found on google on 7-31-15. Stow Lake. Great blue heron.

Found on google on 7-31-15. Heron Watch at Stow Lake, Golden.

It was a beautiful day at Eagleman’s Pond  when Timothy left his nest hidden in one of the tall trees. He flew through the currents of air and landed on the ground by the water. The bird stood with long, thin powerful legs and took in the golden light of the sun. His life was going great and all was well with the world. He felt young, strong, and invincible.” How wonderful life is for a great blue heron,” he thought.

He was a handsome bird and he had not reached his full size. Timothy had blue-gray plumage, stood about four feet tall, and had a wing span of about five feet. He was proud of his wings which were blue-gray and the top side of his wings had white feathers. Timothy had one thing he did with perfection– the art of flying. He practiced every day and he wanted to be the best in all bird kingdom. He was born to fly and it gave him great joy.

Timothy loved to soar and ride the air currents down to the surface of the water. The spray from the water, as his wing skimmed the surface, helped cool him in the hot summer wind. His neck retracted as he flew. When he was on land or in shallow water, his neck would expand.

Timothy was also proud of his legs. They were slender and he walked slowly while hunting for food. He loved to grip the mud with his long, skinny toes. Timothy’s bill was sturdy and thin,  shaped like a harpoon. He was a non-swimming water bird that stayed close to shore waiting patiently for food to come to him.

Timothy loved fish and the pond was full of them. His stomach rumbled with the thought of mollusks, frogs, and other insects that loved the water. Most of all, he enjoyed eating mice. There was always more than enough for him and his bird friends. He would sit and wait patiently for his food to come to him. They always did because he was good at finding food. His bill would spear the fish and he would swallow them whole. A few of his friends died from eating fish that were too big. Timothy was proud of his self-reliance and independent nature. His confidence in his accomplishments and abilities gave him strong self-esteem. Little did he know that in the days to come, that would all change. ( Continued in Part Two.).
