“The Choices We Make In Voting.”

Article written by Yu/stan/kema., Choices we make., Holding Congress accountable., Holding ourselves accountable., responsibilities, Voting.

As a nation of people, we come together to choose how we want to live, and how we will act toward others. We are given the right to vote as citizens, as individuals, to cast a ballot, and those who actually vote will determine how we govern, what values our Country will ascribe to, what laws we follow, and how we treat others in our Country, and the other countries in the world.

Each vote is important.  It is fortunate that we live in a democracy. It is up to the voters to insist we have fair elections, that people follow the rules of voting, and respect the rights of other citizens to vote. Those who refuse to do so must be held accountable in order for a democracy to work. Bullying voters, stealing elections, manipulating the voting system always threatens a democracy. Such behavior cannot be tolerated. It breaks the trust of the American people. It often ends in an abuse of power.

Each time we vote, we must ask ourselves the hard questions in order to make wise decisions. We need to evaluate whether or not the people we elect are working in the best interest of the American people. Are they seeking to meet the needs of all Americans or are they being bought to put party before the needs of all Americans? Tough questions must be answered and we need to vote accordingly.

Are the people we voted for safeguarding the trust of older Americans who for years had money taken out of their paychecks to pay for retirement and who were told the money was put in a trust fund they could draw upon in their old age, and live their last years with dignity and be independent? Are they upholding  their contract with the old, or are they taking money away from the old to pay for their own political interests? No matter what law they manipulated into taking the money that did not belong to them, congress needs to honor the contract. To refuse to do so is stealing, fraud, and abusive. Voters must vote accordingly and hold them accountable.

Are the people we voted for taking care of the needs of the disabled? Are they removing the obstacles that keep the disabled from receiving their benefits so they can survive? Are the people we voted for abusing and neglecting the most vulnerable in our Country in order to give tax cuts to the rich? If so, we must hold them accountable for neglecting the disabled, the sick, the dying, the poor, and the children who are hungry.

As a Nation, are we making sure the people we vote for are not creating suffering for the American people, but are trying to prevent and relieve suffering for those who need help? Do we believe in justice, freedom, compassion, and kindness for others? What kind of world do we want to live in and leave for our children? We have choices in whether we vote or not. We have choices in who we pick to rule over us. Choose wisely the people you vote for. We determine the kind of Country we live in.

The Seasons In Life.

For years I’ve watched the seasons come,

And I’ve watched the seasons go.

They reflect that all living things

Change as they grow.

The seed lies dormant in the earth

Found on Pinterest on 4-30-17. Saved from an article on facilisimo.com.

And then sprouts forth with life.

An infant lies in his mother’s womb

And is born with lots of strife.

A tree needs enough nutrients

In order to grow strong.

A baby needs good nourishment

For his body to grow long.

Spring brings the rain and the warm sun

That enables the tree to grow tall.

Childhood and adolescence give a child

Time to prepare for Fall.

A tree has leaves that shake and twist

In the Summer storms that pass by,

And they change to lovely colors as

The Fall season leaves them to die.

A young man faces the storms of life

With courage and a strong belief:

That God will be there through the worst

And  strengthen him in grief.

Or a man can choose to face those storms

With bitterness and hate,

And blame God for the things he lost

And leave the rest to fate.

For surely as the seasons pass,

Death comes to every man,

And he must choose to walk away,

Or reach out for God’s hand.

The tree drops seeds on the ground

And they end up down below

The earth and wait until next Spring

When new trees will grow.

Accept the good and the bad, Be hopeful, Be positive, bitterness, Blame others, Choices we make., Face life with courage, fears, Fight for life., Obstacles in life, Poetry by Yu/stan/kema., Shoulds

Life’s road is strange as it curves and dips

Over the mountains and through the woods.

There are obstacles we must overcome

And find ways to deal with Life’s “shoulds.”

We can live life fully with out regret

If we don’t give into our fears;

When life knocks us down, we can get up again

And smile through our tears.

We can choose to be bitter when losses occur.

We can tell ourselves, ” Life isn’t fair.”

We can blame others for our mistakes

And say,”There is no one who cares.”

We can face life bravely with steady eyes

And accept the good with the bad.

We can choose to live with a hopeful heart

And think positive when we feel sad.

It is all up to us what we do in life.

We can love or decide we will hate.

We can fight for what we want in life,

Or give in to hopeless fate.

How Will History Remember Us?

Article by Yu/stan/kema., Choices we make., History remembers, Making the world better or worse., Roles we play; Creating our children's environment.

The sun is setting on our democracy, and we are at a crossroads. We must choose what we want our Nation to represent and how we want our children to live. Will we choose: Freedom or tyranny; Honesty or deception; Love or hate; Generosity or greed; Acceptance or discrimination; Rule of law or chaos; Kindness or cruelty; Goodness or evil; or Creation instead of destruction?

We all play a role in making our Nation a better place to live. We can choose to live in a world full of violence, dirty drinking water, polluted air, recalled food, nuclear war, lack of civility, and selfishness. We can also choose to live in a clean environment, to protect beauty and all living things, to respect and help other people, to choose peace instead of war, to learn to compromise, and to promote kindness and what is good. There cannot be passiveness. All of us will decide how history will remember us and our Nation. We need to choose wisely.

We Have A Choice To Make.

Choices we make., For our Country's sake, Good or evil., poetry by Yu/stan/kema, Saving lives., Selling one's soul for cash.

There is a storm growing

In the hearts of those who grieve,

The disrespect of all we hold

Most sacred and believe.

The wanton destruction of

Our parks and forest trails,

Shows no regard for people’s needs

Or Mother Nature’s wails.

The loss of dignified discourse

Replaced with angry words,

Leads to the need to win, divide

Others left unheard.

The rights of women and the poor

Are simply cast aside.

Cost containment is the goal.

Who cares “who lived or died.”

The cost of saving someone’s life,

Means nothing to them,

Who have sold their souls for cash,

Yet claim they follow Him.

Someday we’ll have to make a choice

Which road our Country takes:

To be a force for evil/good.

We can’t make a mistake.

“Those of us who have depression, often feel it intensely and it can last for weeks, months, and even years. Some types of depression have genetic components, and others come from too many overwhelming events happening. It is hard for anyone to understand depression unless you have experienced it. It has nothing to do with having a weak mind, or lack of faith in God, or things other people list. It has something to do with being human and living in a world where good things happen, but also bad things. It has something to do with lack of support and resources, and losses. Failure to get up in the morning comes from exhaustion, and  losing hope that things can get better. It does not come from being lazy, or being unmotivated, or having a flaw. It comes from your heart breaking, being hurt terribly by others, having your world turn upside down, and going through life with little. The next two poems I post will be about depression. I hope it helps others understand the word better.”   Yu/stan/kema.

Choices and Depression.

There are times in our lives

When we are faced with obstacles

Which force us to re-examine all

We once believed in,

And who we are.

There are choices to be made

Even while we are oblivious

To them because of tiredness.

We struggle to choose:

Life over death,

Peace instead of war,

Love and not hate,

Hope instead of despair,

Service over isolation,

Faith instead of  disbelief,

Good instead of evil,

And joy rather than sorrow.

Resources dictate which

Choices we will make

As well as our capacity

To rise when we fall.

The need to survive is

What keeps us alive.
