Fear gallops across the landscape of my mind.

Uncontrolled stress hits me from behind.

My heart races and beats like a drum.

Thoughts disappear and feelings become numb.

Muscles grow tight holding it all in.

I become convinced there’s no way to win.

I cut off my thoughts and say they don’t exist.

I let fear control me and watch myself twist.

I cry out in shame and lose all my pride.

I hold fear within and find a place to hide.

Still, I can find courage living in me

And commit to a process to set us all free.

I will act on a commitment to trust others more.

I will reach out my hand and seek to restore

The Self that I lost in the long ago

When my heart was crushed with a terrible blow.

I will learn to breathe deep and let muscles relax

While I connect with my parts and remove my mask.

What Kind Of Country Do I Want To Build?

Most of the time, I think in terms of where I want to live. In the last two years, I  became aware that I was focusing on the wrong thing. I should have asked instead, “What kind of Country do I want to build?” No matter where I go or live, I can choose to help create what kind of Country I want. A Country is made up of people, values, a way of life, and an image of what it stands for. A Country also has resources and it makes decisions on how it divides the resources among its population. It determines what should be done when strangers approach.

In the past, people became involved in what was being built. Each person was encouraged to participate in the process whether it was a barn raising, forming a Church, starting a school, or collectively meeting together to decide on values to uphold and rules all should abide by. The schools, churches, and homes were aware they needed to be instruments in informing others what the boundaries would be, the rules to be obeyed, the values upheld, and how other people would be treated.

Somewhere along the way, we became distracted by the internet, the cell phones, and allowing the media to reflect back to us its views of what was acceptable behavior, what words to use, and how to treat other people. We became slaves of time. We stopped building and was content to let others take the responsibility of deciding for us what kind of Country we would live in. As a result, we ended up living in a place where chaos was normal and peace was hard to find. Owning up to your own mistakes became a rarity. Blaming others for everything, and treating minorities with no respect became the new normal. Hatred and dividing others became goals. Parents gave up or were too tired to teach children how to behave, what to expect, and what values to claim and live by. We stopped building our Country and became passive.

To build again will take everyone deciding and changing his words, his actions, and his thoughts. Each person needs to see how he influences and impacts others. Ella Wheeler Wilcox wrote about this in a poem: “You Never Can Tell.” Here are a few last stanzas of the poem:

“You never can tell when you do an act

Just what the result will be,

But with every deed you are sowing a seed,

Though the harvest you may not see.

Each kindly act is an acorn dropped

In God’s productive soil;

You may not know, but the tree shall grow

With shelter for those who toil.

You never can tell what your thoughts will do

In bringing you hate or love,

For thoughts are things, and their airy wings

Are swifter than carrier doves.

They follow the law of the universe,

Each thing must create its kind,

And they speed o’er the track to bring you back

Whatever went out from your mind.”

Love is more than saying a word

And more than giving quick hugs.

It’s taking the time to help lift

The burdens others lug.

Love is taking time for patience,

Found on Pinterest on 5-15-17. Coral Honeysuckle. Saved from Indulgy.com

When you want to yell and shout.

It is keeping your voice calm,

when you are full of doubt.

Love is standing by others,

Through the difficult years;

Giving support when needed,

And wiping away the tears.

Love is trying to listen,

When you want to give advice.

It’s thinking of others, not-self,

Being willing to sacrifice,

For others who need your care,

And need a helping hand.

It’s giving another respect,

And showing you understand.

It’s taking time for yourself

To renew the soul within;

Being kind when you make mistakes;

And becoming your best friend.

Love takes work and commitment,

And the desire to forgive.

It’s being there when you’re needed,

Giving others the courage to live.

Living in a world

Without charity or hope,

Is like clinging to a cliff

Without pulleys or a rope.

Giving without thought,

Or emotion is an act,

That seems luke-warm.

There is something it lacks.

Being a good friend

Is more than saying, “I will.”

It involves a commitment

That you work hard to fill.

Saying, “I’m a Christian,”

Involves more than a name.

It means taking care of others

And treating everyone the same.

Implying the old and sick

Seek to bleed us dry,

Is making a judgement

Without asking why?

Talking about the poor

As if they are cursed,

Is only showing God,

We think we should be “first.”

Through out the world’s history,

It has always been true:

When we stop helping others,

Our culture dies too.

This should make us all pause

And look before we leap,

For we may end up drowning

In an ocean that is deep.

Polarization Exists In Life.

Life is filled with emotions, thoughts, moral dilemmas, and occurrences where polarities exist. Our lives reflect these every day and sometimes they can land  in the extremes. We are far more complex than we sometimes realize. Having polarization does not mean we are sick, wishy-washy, or less as human beings. It only means it’s a force we have to deal with. It just exists, and if we want to live life to the fullest, We have to learn through experience, knowledge, and social interactions to accept the fact that polarization is part of who we are.

In the beginning, The Bible presents God as being three parts in one entity: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. All three take on a different form, have different tasks to complete, and they have different ways of interacting with humanity. They also interact differently with each other and yet they come together united in a single purpose, and are presented as one entity. All through the Bible we see exact opposites paired together: light and darkness, good and evil, the spirit and the flesh, love and hatred, war and peace, obedience and defiance, and humility and pride. As human beings, we struggle to find some way to cope with all these things and become more like God.

Within ourselves, we have polarization with emotions. We can feel love for those we care about and we can also feel dislike, disappointment, rage, hurt, and resentment as well. On the same day, we can cry when we are hurt, and feel happy when we feel joy. It is also possible for us to hate and forgive in a day because of experiences we have, knowledge we gain, and events that occur.

We can experience polarization in our thoughts. One minute, we are pulled  back to messages we are given as children when something in the present triggers us. We can see someone in front of us and say he is stupid, yet two days later after listening to a speech, we can say how intelligent that person is.

Our actions can also be polarizing, such as a man cursing and hating himself, and six hours later, he tells others about his successes, rewards himself for his hard work, and pats himself on the back.

In time, we can learn to observe our emotions, thoughts, actions, and spiritual health. We can develop the ability to let go of things we can’t control, problem solve the things we can change, learn new patterns of interactions to improve relationships, and learn through mindfulness to accept ourselves as human beings capable of making mistakes. We can come to love and find ways to better care for ourselves. The strange thing is, when we do decide to bring out into the light those things we try to deny or hide, we are able to work on them, and see ourselves and others in a different light. The pain that sometimes comes with polarization can push us towards growth.

GOD’s LOVE

Somebody Touched me and made me feel

That the love of Jesus in her was real.

Somebody said the words that sent

Food for my soul’s impoverishment.

Somebody gave me the gift of herself

And showed me the source of her glorious wealth.

Actions spoke louder than words to say

The gift of God’s love had come my way.
