“When the US Government talks about drilling in the oceans around all of the coasts, I think about all the creatures who are innocent and who will be harmed by the sounds, the vibrations, the disruptions, and the oil spills. I wonder what kind of men could be so blinded by greed that they destroy all in their path. Godless men, I think, who have lost their connections to the earth, the sky, and the water. They destroy future resources for today’s gain. It makes me weep and rage, for we are all connected, intertwined with every other living thing for survival.
I wrote this poem several years ago to show the ocean connects us also to God and our innermost Self. To harm the ocean, is to bring harm to our souls. Yu/stan/kema (3-24-19). “
REFLECTIONS OF A MINDFUL HEART AND SOUL
Night falls in the canyon tonight
Over-looking the Pacific ocean.
The stars cover the sky like a curtain
Of rare sparkling diamonds without end.
Found on Pinterest on 6-22-16,
The air carries a faint smell of iodine
From sea-weed washed up on shore.
The ocean breeze tastes like sea salt
On the tongue, and the scent of Verbena
Brings back memories that please the heart.
Walking to the ocean’s edge, brings the sound
Of waves lapping against the shore and the
Faint cry of a seagull is heard in the distance.
I sigh with relief, and feel my breath rise and fall
To the rhythm of the waves crashing against the rocks.
Peace flows in and around each cell in my body.
The light of the moon throws a path across the water
And ends at my feet where the light enters.
