Remember fear can dwell

In a heart that’s lost its way

And it gains a better foot-hold

When we forget to pray.

It is easy to forget

That help is always near

When we keep our mind on God

And not give in to fear.

We can choose to cast out fear

And never let it return,

But life is full of tragedies,

As each of us will learn.

Having trust in something bigger

Assures an anxious heart,

And helps us seek guidance

On the path we must chart.

We must learn to deal with feelings

That can cause an overload,

And focus on the journey

As we walk down life’s road.

“What do you see, when you see me?”

I had it all when I was young.

My body was strong and confident,

And I had friends with whom I hung.

I loved doing the things I did.

I earned everyone’s respect,

And had money I could spend.

With people, I found I could connect.

My mind was quick and problem-solved

Most of the obstacles in my way.

I could cope with anything

And troubles seemed to melt away.

I lived with truth and integrity,

And believed in God on high.

I trusted people who I knew,

And I seldom had to cry.

“Don’t you know I wish that you

Knew me, liked me, back then

When I struggled less inside

‘With all I could have been?’ ”

Now, I’m old and slow in thought.

My body has grown weak.

Many losses have occurred.

It’s  hard when I speak.

I cope with less, as time goes on

Than long, long ago.

I try hard to get things done

As the cold winds blow.

I am ill and cannot do

All the things I did.

My energy disappears,

And I am not a kid.

I have to accept the fact

My resources are thin.

I do my best to set some goals,

But I don’t always win.

I find I don’t know every thing;

I often make mistakes;

More often, than not, I find,

I don’t have what it takes.

It’s easier to find the truth,

And struggle with beliefs.

I’m not the giant I once was.

For this, my heart grieves.

“I wish you could have known

The ‘me’ I use to be,

When I was so much more:

Strong, confident, and free.”

Follow me, over the rainbow

And the mountains high.

Follow me, over the ocean.

We’ll soar in the bluest sky.

Burrow deep in the soil,

Where precious crystals grow.

We’ll harvest the finest gems

That can be found below.

Bring our hands together

To create a peaceful earth,

And celebrate a new start

Where every one has worth.

Unified we can conquer

All the perils of the past,

And find new joy in striving

For love that will last.

BOOK REVIEW: ” When God Winks At You. How God Speaks Directly To You Through The Power Of Coincidence.”

" When God Winks At You......, Article by Yu/stan/kema., Book review, Coincidence, God, God communicating with us., God may be leaving us messages., Squire Rushnell- author.

Squire Rushnell wrote a book in 2006 about ways God communicates with us through circumstances that occur daily in our own personal lives. The title of the book shortened is: When God Winks At You… We usually think of God communicating with us through prayer or through the Bible.  What if God actually allows events to fall in to place at the same time we have a feeling of sorrow, anger, or fear, and we yearn for comfort or reassurance? What if in a moment of hopelessness or confusion when we are in need of guidance, a person, book, or sermon crosses our path to give us what we need? What if in a moment of dark despair, we hear a sermon on TV, or meet a neighbor on our street who renews our faith in God, or our hope for the future?

Could that make an impact in our lives and change us in ways that are positive and uplifting? Squire shares stories from famous people to illustrate this.

I have learned over the years that events seemed to happen at the same time in my life that became building blocks for creating, “who I am today.” At the age of ten, the courts changed where I lived. I was exposed to good food, clean sheets, a huge library of books, and a safe place to read poems and stories written by famous writers. I started writing shortly after that. I learned values from Henry Van Dyke, William Wordsworth, Emily Dickinson, Jane Austin, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and many more. I was given the opportunity to get a college education, which probably would not have happened if I had not changed residences when I was ten.

Through out my life, I loved to visit bookstores. While browsing, I have had urges to search in a certain section, or pick up a particular book, and know I would find answers to my questions within a book’s pages.  I earned a teacher’s degree and spent four years teaching children who lived across the street in the same children’s home I had lived in at the age of ten. Out of all the schools found in my home town, I was hired to teach in that school. Was it random or part of God’s plan?

Later in life, I married and had a child who would one day go to college and end up working for a company who specializes in making medications to treat a serious illness I acquired after retiring. I never knew I would get ill. He had already been working in this area, before I got ill. Was it random or God’s way of saying, “I’ve got your back?”

Time after time, things like this happen. I can feel bad, and look out and see a Cardinal fly up to my front porch and peer through my living room window at me, when I haven’t seen one for months. I can walk down the street and see a rare flower nodding to me in the wind. Is God communicating with me? I want to believe  that He is.

I just wish when I’m going through difficult times, I could remember to look for the good, the positive, the blessings I do have instead of focusing on what’s negative, or become so overwhelmed by emotions that I’m blind to everything else. I guess that has something to do with being a human being. I have the power to change that, however, if I choose to do so.  Reading this book is a step in the right direction.1

Darkness falls upon our Country

Like a never-ending blight.

We are struggling to hold on to

Remnants of God’s blessed light.

We are children in a forest

Who have lost our way back

To the place of love and comfort.

It is trust that we lack.

We must up-root what is evil

Found on Pinterest on 7-8-17. A.D. Williams. HIGHER PERSPECTIVE. Facebook.com.

From our lives and our hearts,

And not give in to hatred

That will tear us apart.

We must speak when justice wavers;

Remove hatred from our souls;

Dare to love those who are different;

And make acceptance our goal.

It is only when God’s values

Match the actions that we do,

That we’ll find a way to heal

The damage done to me and you.

Let us rise to meet the challenge

Before us as we turn

Toward the light and send the message:

Love is something we can learn.

Gather up your acts of courage,

Say the words we need to hear:

Faith and hope will get us through this

And restore what we hold dear.

THE HEART OF A CHILD

When my son was born, many years ago, it was one of the happiest days of my life. I loved his dark hair, his tiny toes and fingers, his mouth that was no bigger than a cheerio. God entrusted me with his care which was a serious matter to me.

As he grew older, he was alert, curious, and loved to create things with his hands. I gave him all kinds of paper, fabric, materials from nature, scissors, pencils, and glue. I was fascinated by the things he made when he  was two.

By the time he was three, he planted seeds outdoors  and watched his plants grow. We’d go to parks, lakes, and mountains, and he learned the names of trees, flowers, and bushes. We chased butterflies, observed bugs, and raised vegetables. He made a bog, reading books on how to do it. He planted bog plants and grew Lotus flowers the size of his dad’s hand. They were beautiful.

I loved watching his face light up, and his eagerness to experience the magic and wonder in nature. I never got tired of spending time with him. I enjoyed being a part of his life.

Children are special creatures. They laugh, giggle, and cry in the space of a minute. They love unconditionally. They believe in fairness, and like taking risks in life.

Where ever I go, I enjoy watching babies. I smile and they smile back, as I play peek-a-boo with them. I strike up conversations when I see a child smiling at me. Children tell such funny stories.

I love the poems of Cristen Rogers. She captures the magic of children in a poem she wrote. I’ve included it in my blog. Enjoy.

I submit to do Your will,

For I know You love me still.

All around is evidence,

You believe in commonsense.

I am human, make mistakes,

But without You, my heart breaks.

I know my ego and my pride

Cause such conflict deep inside.

I fight to get the upper hand,

And I fail to understand:

You made all that I can see,

And You died to set me free.

The very least I could do

Is to daily talk with You,

And to let You have a say,

In what I try to do today.

All You really want from me,

Is to love the Trinity.

” There are times in our lives when the stress becomes overwhelming, or our souls feel sick when we see corruption, bigotry, and greed in the very institutions that have pledged to serve the people. At other times in our lives, we are stressed when relationships die, we lose a job, or we become seriously ill. At those times, we find ourselves in dire need of peace.

Nature is the best place for me to find peace. The following poem, written by Edna St.Vincent Millay, describes this perfectly.”  Yu/stan/kema

AFTERNOON ON A HILL.

I will be the gladdest thing

Under the sun!

I will touch a hundred flowers

And not pick one.

I will look at cliffs and clouds

With quiet eyes,

Watch the wind bow down the grass,

And the grass rise.

And when lights begin to show

Up from the town,

I will mark which must be mine,

And then start down!

Dare to love one another.

Doesn’t matter what the color,

For God made us brothers.

If you strip us of our skins,

You will find us to be kin.

Our same needs live within.

We all grieve what might have been.

All of us love pure joy,

And we’re easy to annoy.

We all laugh when a boy

Can tell a funny story.

We all have our own fears,

And we age with every year.

There are times we have tears,

And we want our loved ones near.

Why can’t we all see,

The world is made of you and me.

God’s love could set us free

To be a caring family.

A rainbow in the sky:

So was it when my life began;

So is it now I am a man;

So be it when I shall grow old,

Or let me die!

The Child is father of the Man;

And I could wish my days to be

Bound each to each by natural piety.
