I know that God exists, for every Spring,

Beauty comes to reawaken me.

The Cardinal flies from tree to tree,

And sings his piercing note of ecstasy.

The Apple blossoms dance in        the wind

As River Birches bend in the storm.

Some part of me thrills to the sight

Of it all, and joy keeps me warm.

The Red Bud trees line my lonely street.

Tulips wave to me as I walk by.

I sense that God is very near.

I run and greet Him with a cry.

Fire will suffice,

In bringing comfort

To my tired heart,

When broken dreams

Cause tears to start.

Snow falls upon

The frozen ground,

And does so without

A single sound.

It’s simple things that

Mean so much:

A kind word and

A gentle touch.

These priceless gifts

Bring us near,

Drink in the fragrance anew,

When we are young, powerful forces shape and influence how we feel and who we become. Our future goals are formed early in life by our experiences with family, religion, schools, the community we live in, and the culture we embrace. The seeds are planted in childhood, and they bloom when the soil is right, when we gain a sense of security, and when we have the energy to carry them out. Sometimes, we learn from what we see, and we are determined not to make the same mistakes as those who came before us. Some of us don’t learn from past experiences, and we repeat them out of bitterness and pain.

I was born into a family where alcoholism, abuse, and domestic violence was an everyday occurrence. My father ruled his household as a tyrant. No one was allowed to disagree with him or the consequences would be painful. He made fun of all religions, hated people whose skin was a different color than his, and blamed everyone else for his misfortunes. He hated being responsible  for anything in life. He refused to feed his children, but always had food in the house for himself and had strict instructions that no one could touch his food but him.

My father was disgusted by others who were weak, and unable to care for themselves. He hated and abused women, had children he didn’t want, and refused to let others make demands on him. He bullied others and was unspeakably cruel. He lied often, took advantage of others, and was selfish.

Some of the people who knew him, said he was evil. He created chaos wherever he went. He bragged about his escapades, how brilliant he was, and how stupid everyone else was. He had to win no matter who got hurt as a result. He hated rules, and he laughed when bad things happened to others. He was self-centered and arrogant.

When I grew up, I spent a life-time not being like my father. I became the opposite of all he stood for, because I knew first hand what it was like to be poor, hungry, a victim of his rage. Perhaps, good did come as a result of this experience. I became more compassionate and caring. I became a helper to others in need, comforted those who needed comforting, fed those without food, helped shelter those who needed a safe place to live, and never forgot my responsibility to society, my family, or others who needed my assistance.

That is why events happening now  in society and government affect me deeply as a person. I want to live in a society where good triumphs over evil; where love and respect for others is more important than greed; where people accept responsibility for helping those who need help; and where a government looks out for its people rather than being bought to enhance corporate needs and the demands of only the rich.

I want to live in a world where a man’s word can be relied upon; where manipulation and corruption are dealt with justly; and where anyone can walk where he wants feeling safe. I want to live where people can exist without discrimination, and not be hated because of their color, race, religion, class, sexual orientation, or gender. Most of all, I want to live in a country that cares whether people live or die; whether the poor are encouraged to rise with dignity; whether children and women are treated fairly; and whether the elderly can live their last years  with dignity, and  peace.

The Feeling Of Being Wanted Brings Joy.

Article by Yu/stan/kema., Being wanted in life, by children, friends, God, lessonslearnedinlife.com, lovers, parents, pinterest picture quote, The blessings in being wanted.

Found on Pinterest on March 15, 2017. lessonslearnedinlife.com.

There is nothing in the world like the feeling of being wanted. This is especially true for those children who lived in households where abuse, neglect, domestic violence, and alcoholism were present. The need to be wanted, to know that someone chooses you to spend time with, is so elemental and central to our existence as human beings.

Mothers, who want their children, spend time with them, show them affection, confront them firmly, but give them feedback that they are loved and cherished despite mistakes and difficult moments. They guide their children, teach them necessary skills to navigate life, and see to their spiritual, physical, and emotional needs.

They also encourage independence and creativity in their children. They  open their children to the beauty of nature, the value of human connection, and the social contract of accepting responsibility for themselves and others. Most of all, they teach and show love, acceptance, forgiveness, and fairness toward others.

Friends, who show us acceptance and take time to be with us, enrich our lives. They commit to the relationship and make time in their busy schedules to contact us. They give us respect, set boundaries with us, try to meet our needs when possible, and they help us grow by exposing us to constructive criticism, feedback, and open our minds and souls to beauty, knowledge, and a different perspective towards life. Friendships matter.

Partners, husbands, wives, and lovers expose us to different ways of being, communicating, and sharing who we really are as people. They make us feel intensely, and they push us to make changes so that we grow together in relationship to one and another. They can lead us to joy and unspeakable pain. They often create bonds that last for a life-time.

God wants us to be in relationship to Him. He wants our company and has sacrificed much for us. He speaks to us in nature, through the words and actions of others, through the written Word, through coincidental events, our intuition, and the attempts we make to reach out to Him in prayer, song, worship, books, and others who love Him.

For some of us, it is hard to believe He wants us as we really are. In times of difficulty, we feel He is angry with us or doesn’t want us. Our past relationships often color our perception of Him. When we achieve a good relationship with God, we can experience peace, security and joy. Being wanted, by those that matter to us, can bring us happiness in life.

Lay me down, beside the still water

Where the wild flowers grow,

And the rush of the wind

Bends the grass to and fro.

Turn my face towards the sun,

So its rays will keep me warm.

Build a shelter over me

To protect me from the storm.

Please, do not grieve for me

As I cross to the other side,

For there are trees and flowers,

And God’s arms are opened wide.

He will cradle and rock me

Until I’m strong again.

I will soon feel  peace

And joy growing within.

Will you say a prayer for me

When the world is upside-down?

Will you take the time to care

When I land on shaky ground?

Found on Pinterest on 2-9-16. Helping hands. Dalai Lama.

Will you sing along with me

When my soul needs some hope?

My troubles seem to multiply,

And I find I cannot cope.

Will you listen to my grief

And reach out with a hand?

Will you strengthen my heart

By saying, “I know you can?”

When you look into my eyes

And gaze upon my face,

Will you judge me not,

And give me some grace?

For I need someone to come

And show me that they care,

So I can finally believe,

God’s love is everywhere.

Nothing in life is really as it seems,

For hope can end up smashed by someone’s fist.

Innocence comes from within, lighting our soul

With beauty, truth, and absolute joy.

We believe that others can make us whole,

That ideals can lead us to glory.

Sooner or later, we are taken down,

And our hearts are torn to pieces.

We search for a hole in the cold ground,

We choose to give up or we fight,

To deal with the burden of pain.

For we know, if we extinguish the light

Of hope, we’ll go insane.

I feel compassion for birds,

For the wind is strong today.

I watch the tree branches bend

As they dance and sway

To some unheard melody

Found on Pinterest on 3-7-17.” Living in the Green Wood.” Ivan Alifan.
windfineartgallery.com.

That only trees can hear.

The trees stand tall and proud

In the gale without fear.

Why can’t I be more like a tree

And bend with the winds in life?

Instead I get caught up in them,

And feel a load of strife.

I wish that I could stand as tall

As the oak tree out back.

Instead I want to run away.

It’s courage that I lack.

One day I’ll be as brave as trees

That bend with the wind.

I’ll learn to stay above the fray,

And accept what life sends.

I’ll learn to be as patient

As the trees that wait for Spring,

And when I see my new-found growth,

I’ll hear the angels sing.
