Morning breaks across the fields,

And birds sing merrily.

Deer move through the summer grass,

And sniff the air warily.

Look for the bees in the morning light

As they leave their hives and fly,

With eagerness and bouncing joy

To the sweetest flowers nearby.

Search the ground and you will see

The insects start to move,

Across your field of vision,

And dance to their own groove.

The red fox lopes so easily

Across the sun-lit road.

He doesn’t seem to mind a bit

That he hasn’t a heavy load.

He takes his time to follow the scent

And the tracks that lead South.

He eagerly sees his racing prey

And he licks his little mouth.

I see a Cardinal, as red as fire,

Fly through the morning air.

He looks for others near and far,

For he truly wants to share

His wise words with us all:

He shouts, “Cheer,cheer,”

And charms us with his call.

I open my nose and I’m aware

Of the fragrance of lovely flowers.

The wonderful smell of lilacs

Hangs in the air for hours.

I’m reminded again, this morning,

It’s a special time for creatures.

Beauty causes our souls to unite,

For Nature is our greatest teacher.
