I was walking in the forest
As the moon lit up the night,
I saw a fellow-creature
Move out of sight.
I felt compelled to follow,
This creäture of the wild.
He turned and looked at me,
Like I was just a child.
I walked the path he took,
And rested when he did.
I searched for a little food;
Lay flat, when he hid.
His fur was thick and beautiful,
His body sleek and fine.
He carried so much power.
He seemed to walk through time.
He seemed to scan the forest
With far-reaching eyes.
When he looked into my face,
I knew that he was wise.
We developed a friendship,
Apart from humankind.
Wolf was there to save me,
When I lost my mind.
All he did was be there,
Beside me as I healed.
No demands were made.
Our brotherhood was sealed.
He let me be myself.
He never thought me weak.
When filled with pain and sorrow,
He encouraged me to speak.
The years passed so quickly,
And then Wolf died.
I felt I had but lost it all–
So empty inside.
I wept, and thought,
This cannot be!
The Wolf Spirit
Moved in me!!
