The mountains stand tall

In the afternoon sun.

Snow brushes their tops

Before the day is done.

They are proud in their stance

And stand like sentinels in the night.

They exude a sense of protection,

A sense of greatness in their height.

They give sustenance to all

Who seek to climb the mountain peaks.

They increase the self-esteem

Of anyone who seeks

To find God Almighty

By hiking the mountain trails,

Breathing in God’s beauty

And all that entails.

The mountains carry forests

Upon their loaded backs.

They give shelter to the creatures                                      

Who leave behind their tracks.

Mountains give way to the streams            

That carve into its stone

Beautiful patterns, as does 

Wild  winds that groan.

There is nothing like a mountain

That lifts a man’s soul,

And  brings Him back to God,

Who  makes him whole.
