Old familiar faces rise up

Like ghosts from the past

To rattle my defenses

In an effort to get

My complete attention.

Time has given me

A different perspective

On pain that lasted,

It seemed like forever,

In the center of my heart.

I am still empty in places

Where love once grew,

And trust is hard to find

In the corners of my

once shattered mind.

Time has given me

The courage I need,

To heal from these tears,

And not repeat old ways

Of acting and feeling.

Lessons I have learned

From  the scars I wear,

Keep me on my path,

And help me create

Walls to keep you out.

WE ARE ALL CHILDREN

Searching for answers;

Hiding underneath our skin;

Dreaming of climbing mountains,

To see where we have been;

Asking others questions when

The answers are within;

Reaching for each other

With a child-like love;

Wanting to be  spirit,

And fly like doves.

We are all children

Wanting so much more,

From those around us

Who often ignore

The gifts we are giving

From the heart’s store.

Misunderstandings can

Hurt us to the quick

When they fail to see

What really makes us tick.

We are all children

Searching for a dream;

Trying to be grown-ups,

And wanting to scream:

“Stop all the lies.

Life’s not what it seems.

Where is the laughter?

Where is the fun?

Where’s my respect,

When it’s all said and done?”

We are all children

Who want to be,

Our authentic selves,

Not what you see.

What makes it so hard

To allow “US”  to be “ME?”

Within us all lies

The needs of our youth.

We’d be better off

In accepting  this truth.

ELOHIM, Our Father,

God of all Creation.

You are part of Three.

You fill me with elation.

God, God the Father,

In Christ, I see

A part of all You are;

Who I want to be.

Holy, Holy One,

Your Spirit comes

On wings of fire

To be  with Your Son.

All of You together,

Father, Son, and Spirit,

In this endeavor:

“It is finished.” It’s done.

Christ came to save me

From mortal sin.

God sent His Holy Spirit

To live here within

My body and soul,

So the Three, and Me,

One day will live forever

In perfect harmony.

Who  come before me:

They comfort me in

This time of sadness.

They remind me  even

In the midst of war,

There is room for hope

And a need for prayer.

When I am lonely,

They clear a space for me

At their fireplace,

And greet me as a friend.

To find a sense of direction

Through mindfulness and

Spirit of the Living God,

Touch my soul anew.

Let your Spirit fall on me.

Teach me what is true.

Never let my heart forget

The meaning of the Cross.

A brave man gave His life so

I would not be a loss.

It’s easy to forget, at times,

I did not earn this gift.

It was freely given so

There would not be a rift,

Between me and my God,

And leave me all alone,

Without a sure way back

Come light a fire within

And burn out my impurities,

And leave me without sin.

Book Review: “My Precious Child. Affirmations for the Child Within.” Mary L. Williams.

"My Prcious Child. Affirmations for the Child Within.", Book review, Children books., Internalized messages., List of books to read., Mary L. Williams., Pinterest photos., Positive Affirmations., Reading to the Child within., Sara Hadenfeldt.

This book was written by Mary L. Williams. It is a small, thin book of positive statements that parents can read to their children. The messages can be easily internalized by children as messages they can carry with for the rest of their lives. Adults, who have been abused or neglected as children, can gain some benefit by reading these affirmations to the Child within themselves, as a tool to increase their self-esteem. The illustrations in the book are quite beautiful.

Reading to oneself can be a healing experience, especially if done repeatedly over time. One of the affirmations used in the book is:

“You don’t have to be perfect. I still love you, even when you make mistakes.”1

It is a wonderful message for a child to internalize. Take the time to read it. The book has a way of attaching itself to the inside corners of your heart.

Other books that can soothe, comfort, or increase self-esteem are listed below:

The light penetrates my aging body

Like a warm, comforting fireplace does

In the middle of a cold December day.

The March winds bring the sweet scent of

Magnolia blossoms to my front porch.

The sound of “cheer, cheer,” proudly

Rings out in the clear, cold air as a bird

Darts like a red flame across my front yard

And climbs into an azure blue sky.

My soul whispers after the high-flying bird,

“Take me with you. I can no longer fly.

I too want to touch heaven with wings

And leave behind an inspiring word or two

Born in a stable, not built for a King,

He took his first breath, heard angels sing.

Cows and the lambs laid down in the straw,

To give great homage to, the Greatest Of All.

When Jesus reached His boyhood  years,

Broken bird wings brought forth tears.

His eyes filled with compassion and care.

He healed broken hearts in deep despair.

Joseph and He made things out of wood.

He loved His mother and felt understood.

Years passed and Christ knew there was more

That God wanted His life to stand for.

He humbled Himself, was baptized by John;

God gave Him a mission the very next dawn:

“Heal the sick, the disabled, and dying;

Give rest to the weary; Help those who are crying.”

God knew the great price, His Son would  pay,

To save mankind, and create a new way

To bring men back to the arms of God,

So they could walk where God has trod.

God gave up His Son for you and me

So we could live for eternity.

The wind blows hither and yon,

Bringing with it a fragrant bouquet

Of scents that stimulate my senses.

I am left breathless by the smells

That remind me of yester years.

Memories clutch at my heart

With cruel hands, leaving an imprint

On my unquiet mind and weary soul.

The memories come with both

Positive and negative thoughts;

A kaleidoscope of images and emotions,

That get in the way of living my life

Mindfully, moment to moment.

There must be a way to organize it all,

So that each stays in its perfect box,

Allowing me space to move and breathe

And find a place of peace.
