Adam and Eve., Book review by Yu/stan/kema, Book: Eve. A Novel., Man has a choice., Man's relationship to God. Trust, Psychology., Spiritual Journey., The Creation, Wm. Paul Young- author.

Eve. A Novel, written by Wm. Paul Young, is a delightful book to read. As with all books we read, we bring who we are to the table to read it. We find knowledge and meaning in what we ingest. This is my personal take on this book.

Eve is allegorical in nature and lyrically written by the Author who writes beautifully, and whose words dance and almost sing on the pages of the book. It is a tale about a woman, Lilly, who is found after washing up on a shore inside a metallic container with other women who are found dead. She is the only survivor and is physically, emotionally, and spiritually broken by the abuses she has endured in her childhood and up to her being found. She is shackled by a past she can’t remember and which fills her with shame. She is cautious, fearful, confused, and sometimes angry, but has no idea why.

It is a book that operates on different dimensions of time and space. The story moves back and forth through the past, the present, and the future. One gets the sense that Lilly’s soul moves free from her  body and travels in search of meaning and healing while her body is being treated for her physical injuries.

Lilly is filled with self- doubt, and helplessness. She has lost her purpose for living and her world has been turned upside down. She feels damaged as a human being, unworthy to even exist, and feels she does not belong anywhere. She is found and is nursed back to life by a group of people who are kind and caring. and patient. One member is deceptive and causes problems for Lilly, Simon.

Lilly meets Eve, a black woman, who tells Lilly she is her mother. The book also tells Eve’s story. Eve is presented as the mother of all, and becomes a guide, a mentor to Lilly. Lilly, Eve said, was sent to witness the Creation, God making Adam and then Eve,  watching their relationship with God, and witnessing how they both turned away from God. She observes the coming of evil in the form of a serpent, and sees how God handles it all.

At first Lilly rejects Eve, is distant from the people who are helping her, and is angry at God for not protecting her from abuse in the past. She let’s everyone know she is not religious, does not trust anyone, and she rejects her purpose for being there.

Eve proceeds cautiously with Lilly. She gives her support, comfort, caring, and helps her face her fears. She accepts all of the negative feelings Lilly has toward herself, others, and God. Eve encourages her to take one step at a time, to take risks, and become more confident in her ability to remember and handle her past.  Lilly learns she can be her real self without fear of being judged or punished. She strives to find out who she once was, who she is now, in the present, and what she is to become.

Eve, the book, describes beautifully the Creation of the universe, Adam, and Eve, and their relationship with God. The words of Mr. Young are so descriptive and amazing that the reader yearns to connect with God in a more personal, face-to-face way.

God tells Lilly He loves Her and wants a real relationship with her. She is told man is given a choice to trust in Him to make good on His promises, or man can turn away and trust only in himself. He tells Lilly that Trust is about relationships, not power.1

I highly recommend reading Eve. It will make you think about God, relationships, your relationship to God, and your purpose for being here on earth.

Some give with resentment,

And some with great joy.

Some give with expectation

Of sharing a toy.

Some give without thinking—

For love lies within.

Some give with hesitation

For “what might have been.”

Some give not at all,

And they haven’t a clue,

What thinking of others

Could possibly do.

When giving with pleasure

And giving with joy,

It enriches the lives

Of each girl and boy.

It gives hope to the weary,

And light when it’s dark.

It gives others great courage

When making their mark

In a world full of hatred,

Sadness, and pain.

It makes enough love

To wipe out the gain

Of greed and cruel laughter,

And all kinds of sin,

To find true redemption

Residing within.

GIVE LOVE ANOTHER CHANCE.

Broken hearts are hard to mend

If you seek, “What might have been.”

Harder still, if you are stuck

Saying, “It was all bad luck.”

If you find, You’re blaming self;

Believe they have more inner wealth;

Remain convinced, “It’s all my fault,”

That they broke your kind heart;

Then, believe there’s something strange

When you are asked to rearrange

Your schedule and the things you like.

Time to tell them, “Take a hike.”

If they really cared for you,

They would do what they could do

To protect you from all harm;

If danger lurks, give the alarm.

They’d cherish the love you give,

And teach you better ways to live.

They’d show respect for who you are;

If needed, love you from afar.

They’d laugh at funny things you say;

Respect your body day by day;

Honor values you hold dear;

And when you need it, give a cheer.

Just remember from the start,

Love can grow within the heart.

No matter if hope fades away,

And someone stoops low to betray

The love and trust you give to them,

And your faith within grows dim,

There are people you can trust,

And give love a chance to fly.

Letting Go

Life is full of twists and turns. The road of life is not straight, nor is it smooth. Sometimes it twists back to take care of unresolved issues or to see things from an entirely different perspective. The road always stretches on before us. We tarry for a period of time to gather resources, to renew our spirits, to leave parts of ourselves behind as gifts for those who touch our lives. But invariably, we press on.

The hardest thing in life is learning to let go, especially for those of us who have endured so many losses. We have to make room for the new, and we have to let go of those who can no longer teach us or help us grow. We have to let go of those who no longer want us in their lives, or who stifle our spiritual and emotional growth. This is very hard to do when we love. We want so much to keep them in our lives. With sadness, we learn we must let go. We do so with sadness and with tears.

We come into this world

As frightened human beings,

Fresh from the spirit land

We have left behind us.

We come kicking and screaming,

Knowing we leave behind

Softness, love, peacefulness,

And the sweet songs of angels,

Encouraging us to move forward

Towards our destiny on earth.

Loud sounds fall on our ears

As we keep our eyes shut from

Lights that pierce us with their

Brightness. Our hearts beat

Irregularly from the fear inside us.

The air is cold and disagreeable to skin

That has only known warm moisture

In the womb of our mother’s body.

Cruel hands tug on our legs and arms.

We shiver and we cry with real tears

When we realize our place of safety is gone.

We come to accept that we must adjust

To a world we know nothing about, and

Rely on strangers for protection and safety.

This is a lesson we learn from the moment

We are born: to rely on others and to trust them

When we cannot take care of ourselves.

We do so with much fear and trembling,

For we know, even from birth, we must

Reach out and trust others with our lives.

This is not an easy thing, when trying to survive.

Obstacles Along Life’s Journey.

Article by Yu/stan/kema., Emotions can become obstacles standing in the way of growth., Facebook Timeline quote., It is important to know your triggers., Memories serve a purpose in our lives., Painful memories., Reliving pain does not feel good., Triggers come whether we like it or not.

Sometimes our weaknesses take us down a very long winding road filled with rocks, tree limbs, and holes in the ground. We have to step carefully to avoid the obstacles in our way. If we are not focused, we will stumble and fall. Our past does not define us, but it does affect us one way or the other.

The other day someone had written a statement about past memories, that we must like them or want them or we wouldn’t spend so much time dwelling on them or bringing them up. There may be a handful of people in the world that like the hurtful memories, but for most people, they avoid them like the plague unless a trigger occurs that brings back the same feelings and thoughts of buried memories. Then they rise up and catch us with surprise and wrap gnarled thick vines around our minds to disable us. Most of the time we go along enjoying life until we see, smell, touch, taste, or hear something that triggers trauma from the past.

Sounds are frequent triggers for me. The sound of a shovel hitting hard soil or the sound of digging can make me break out in a cold sweat. The loud sound of a firecracker, or muffler can bring back memories of a gun shot, and I find myself on the ground, more often than not. When I go and have my infusions at the hospital every two weeks, the smell of the alcohol brings back memories of other hospitalizations before five years of age. I can snap awake, even if I am asleep, if the nurses step too close to my chair during the I.V.G. Losses also trigger memories of loss.

Soldiers are triggered by firecrackers, a car back firing. Sometimes memories surface because we haven’t fully worked through old trauma yet. The soul seeks resolution, if possible. I don’t remember anyone ever telling me they enjoyed  the Trauma memories. Most of the time, they would give anything if they could stop them from coming. Sadly, that’s not often possible.

Who loves to run, and play.

He becomes a source of comfort

When trouble is a foot.

He checks me out completely

When he knows that I am hurt.

His eyes are brown and soulful,

And full of innocence.

They melt my resolve.

I have no commonsense.

His ears are soft like velvet.

His teeth are tiny too.

I love his little nose,

And tricks that he can do.

His fur is thick in winter.

I cut it in the spring.

I bathe him in the kiddie pool,

We don’t miss anything.

He loves to catch the ball

When I throw it in the air.

His body often flies

As he lands most anywhere.

He comes to where I’m sitting

And watches with his eyes,

My facial expressions,

For he wants my french fries.

He moves his little rump

Closer to my chair,

And holds his muzzle up

For me to brush his hair.

He loves his little crate,

Sleeps on blankets in the night.

I sing him lullabies

And his world becomes just right.

We really make a pair,

My sweet dog and I.

I give him all I have

And never question why.
