A thin hollow cry shatters the darkness,

Anguish greater than the heart can bear.

Reaching out, afraid of self and others,

Hoping someone will become aware

That a soul is searching

I must

Pour forth

The “self”

That lies

Within,

Hidden safe

From all

Who reach

For it.

For they have hungers

Only I can fill.

I am responsible

To God for them.

But fear, and

False security

Has made

“Myself” retreat.

And so, I die

From holding back

The love God puts

Within my heart

To give to them.

Being Independent

I stand

Leaning against

The wind.

I’m in need

Of something.

I am empty.

Who can feed

My hungry soul?

Perhaps,

God uses you

To let me know

I cannot stand alone.

Even

Self-sufficiency

Has limits.

Come,

And give your hand

To me.

Sorrow In A Garden

Here to this ancient garden

When wintry days had flown

I came, with comrade Sorrow

To dwell with her alone.

Within this sweet seclusion

Far from the world’s rude stare

What exquisite communings

Sorrow and I would share!

What banquets of remembrance,

What luxury of tears

With Sorrow in a garden

Through the rose-scented years.

But one day when she called me

I did not hear her voice;

I only heard the lilies

which sang, rejoice! rejoice!

For June was in the garden

And June was in my heart,

I had forgot pale Sorrow

And now we dwell apart.

But often in the twilight

When birds and gardens sleep

I feel her presence with me.

Her arms about me creep.

And when the ghost of summer

And the dead roses talk,

I hear her softly sobbing

Among the moon-lit walk.

I never can forget her

So intimate were we,

But when I walk my garden

She comes no more to me.

My faithful friend:

I watch you from a far. Your eyes are filled with intelligence. When I say your name, your head turns and your ears perk. You listen for my instructions. Your body stops in suspended motion, and your lips open in a little smile. As I talk, you cock your head: first to the left and then to the right. You eagerly wait for my command. I feel the love grow in the space between us.

I demand you “come.” Your long tail waves, like a flag in the wind, as you walk towards me. The sight of you fills my heart with joy. Your body sits in front of me on the ground. I kneel . Your dear eyes gaze into mine without judgment or reproach. You are intent on what I need.

I reach out and gently rub your silken ears, and softly touch your muzzle.. Your nose nudges my hand to let me know you want more of my touch. My fingers wrap around the muscles on your chest, your sides, and back. A pleased sound escapes from your throat. I feel your muscles loosen. You sit closer to let me know you are grateful  for my touch. I rest my hand on your head. I feel the tenderness well up inside me for the one who knows me better than I know myself. Your eyes close. I speak the words: ” I love you, fuzzy face.” Your lips smile with pure contentment. I feel  grateful for you, my faithful friend.

My little dreams float on the water,

Water smooth as sheets of ice.

No one sees them as they linger.

But for me, they will suffice.

Little prayers go up to heaven

Asking for some sweet relief,

From my trials and tribulations,

And the darkness of my grief.

I knock on the doors before me.

They are closed and barred today.

I am growing faint  from trying.

No one’s asking me to stay.

I walk the forests and the valleys

Looking for a place to sleep.

I am cold, lost, and lonely,

As the shadows round me creep.

Life is  filled with many losses.

I have struggled to find

A little hope to keep me going,

For the years have not been kind.

So I learn to keep on walking,

Putting courage in my soul,

Trying hard to not be bitter

Towards the things that take a toll.

INFLUENCE

Drop a pebble in the water

And its ripples reach out far,

And the sunbeams dancing on them

May reflect them to a star.

Give a smile to someone passing,

Thereby make his morning glad;

It may greet you in the evening

When your own heart may be sad.

Do a deed of simple kindness,

Though its end you may not see.

It may reach, like widening ripples,

Down a long eternity.

Lessons In Life

  1. It’s important to care and have compassion for yourself as well as other people. You deserve respect too.
  2. People who care about you don’t threaten to leave. They try to work it out. It isn’t always possible to do, but they try.
  3. People who don’t answer your questions, have already given you an answer. It’s time to move on.
  4. Not every one is going to have your values. You can only change yourself. Don’t accept responsibility for other people’s failures or inability to understand. They are responsible for their own growth.
  5. Never be afraid to tell the truth. Other people lie because they lack the courage and integrity to tell the truth.
  6. When you find yourself trying to explain over and over who you are and why, and they still don’t get you, it’s time to stop, because they never will understand nor do they want to.
  7. When your intuition and the information tells you, it’s not a good fit, run. Don’t assume any thing. It will only cause pain in the end.
Found on Pinterest on 9-27-15.

Found on Pinterest on 9-27-18.It is good to express the feelings and the thoughts           of the “real you.” You have the right to ask                   questions, to ask for what you need, to                     negotiate.

9.Don’t let any one shame you in doing so. You deserve to get your needs met too.

10. If certain things define who you are as a person, like giving or being assertive, never allow any one to shame the “real you.” Never give away pieces of yourself to make others comfortable

11. If people really want to have contact with you, they will let you know. People make promises and break promises. That says nothing about you, but it says a lot about their sense of integrity.

Found on Pinterest on 7-20-15. by Charles Olando.12. People carry with them past baggage. That does not define them or make them bad for it. It only means they have to work harder than others to achieve and accomplish goals. They have to work harder to have good relationships and most really want to. They need to be encouraged and praised for this.

13.Most people have the capacity to change their lives. There are ways of getting resources and learning skills to make that happen, but it has to come from inside you, the drive to do so. No one else can do it for you, but others can give support and encouragement.

14. Apologizing over and over to people is counterproductive. Apologizing once for something you did not do may help clear the air, but otherwise it causes more harm than good. If you are a responsible person and tend to apologize excessively, cut it out. It generally doesn’t help.

15. Letting go is not a weakness when it keeps your soul alive.

16. It is better to risk  loving and trusting others.  It makes you alive and open to life. To decide for the rest of your life to live in solitude and not reach out to others or to believe in the good in humanity, is to experience death before dying.

17. Your past, your illness does not define you. You decide how you will live and what you will be.

There are seasons of the mind

That  we come in contact with

Through out time.

We need to decide

Whether we want to be

Aware or unaware of

The changes.

It takes courage to see

What triggered us to cause

The darkness of depression

Or the joy in giving

Heart-felt love.

It takes strength to gain

insight into Anger

And the beginning of Shame.

It takes truthfulness to see

And hold ourselves accountable

For our part in incidents.

It takes character to admit

When we are wrong and

Need to be responsible for

Making amends to those we hurt.

Openness is essential

As well as mindfulness

To make the connections between

The past and the present,

The thought and the feeling,

The heart and the soul,

and

Our behaviors and  values.

It is through such scrutiny

That we will gain the skills

To deal with the aspects of

The seasons of the mind.

Greatly Begin!

Greatly begin! though thou have time

But for a line, be that sublime–

Not failure, but low aim is crime.

Two Temples.

A builder builded a temple,

He wrought it with grace and skill;

Pillars and grains and arches

All fashioned to work his will.

Men said, as they saw its beauty,

“It shall never know decay.

Great is thy skill, O builder:

Thy fame shall endure for aye.”

A Mother builded a temple

With loving and infinite care,

Planning each arch with patience,

Laying each stone with prayer.

None praised her unceasing efforts,

None knew of her wondrous plan;

For the temple the Mother builded

Was unseen by the eyes of man.

Gone is the builder’s temple,

Crumbled into the dust;

Low lies each stately pillar,

Food for consuming rust.

But the temple the Mother builded

Will last as the ages roll,

For that beautiful unseen temple

Was a child’s immortal soul.

HATTIE VOSE HALL
