There’s beauty in the lovely thought

That she will be my friend.

Someone to trust and cherish, too,

On whom I can depend.

A friend who knows right from wrong,

And likes me for myself. 

A friend who digs inside  my mind

To cultivate its wealth.

A friend who raises me above

The tears of yesterday

And never fails to let me know 

“There’s hope in just today.”

A friend who tells me what she thinks

And seeks to tell the truth.

Who spurs me toward much brighter goals

That lie within my youth.

A friend to love and honor still

No matter if the sky

Be filled with darkness and with clouds

Because I’m doubting why.

A friend who means a great deal more

Than what I can express.

She shows me  deep respect and care,

With heart-felt tenderness.

There’s beauty in the lovely thought

She’ll always be my friend.
